My last weekend in Japan
Well, I have a ticket to get on a train tomorrow (Monday) at 1pm and go to Narita, where I get on a plane at 5pm to come back to Seattle, and then arrive in Seattle on Monday at 9am.
Today I went to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame and yesterday I went to a Yokohama Bay Stars vs. Yomiuri Giants game and there now I don't have to go type an entry. Heh heh.
Okay, no, so yesterday I did go down to Yokohama and I did see a game, and the Giants crushed the Bay Stars. Afterwards, I met up with
alibash and we hung out for the evening. Since the stadium is near Kannai station we were going to go to some ramen shop there, only it turned out they were closed for a week starting yesterday, so oops. We randomly stumbled on a yakiniku place though, and it was pretty damn good! I got the "drink bar" for drinks, so I tried a strawberry milk tea thing, and a melon soda, and some other stuff.
After that we went to Minato-mirai, where we saw a big ship docked (the "Nippon Maru"), saw a gaijin street performer juggling and riding a unicycle and stuff. He said his name was Paul and he learned Japanese at Kumon, but I don't buy it because he was absolutely fluent, impressively so. Infact, I didn't even realize he was a gaijin until we moved up front and could clearly see his face. After that we went to the amusement park, and I wanted to ride the big ferris wheel since I saw it in some dorama or another (I want to say it was Brother Beat, but I really don't remember), with the big colourful spikes and the big time display in the middle. So we rode it, only the line took 45 minutes, and the wheel took 15 minutes, so by the time we were done the park was closing. Oops.
We played with my camera for a bit after that -- I should have some funky ferris wheel shots to show off -- and then went back to the station and went home and stuff. I got back and rather than doing internet stuff, played Pop'n'Music, where I FINALLY GOT EXTRA STAGE WOOOOO.
Today, I went last-minute shopping. First I went to Otsuka to the Book-Off, ignoring the ekimae matsuri going on. I got some CDs and two more issues of H2 -- since I'm about done reading the first two, and I bought up to volume 7, I foresee a North America book-off trip in my future.
Then I went to the Tokyo Dome, where I was going to do last-minute baseball shopping -- I got myself a Furuta shirt and a Fighters cap, mostly -- and then I went into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and unlike three years ago, they LET you take pictures now! But I didn't have a camera! So I ended up going back to Ikebukuro, getting my camera, and coming back to the hall of fame. Yeah, I'm a dork.
After all that I went to Akihabara, where I found PNM 4 for a good price and PNM 12 used but I didn't care. I wandered around a bit, got annoyed at all the rain, and on my way out, stopped in Gamers to see if they had baseball cards with their trading cards. They didn't, but on the CD floor I stumbled on the motherlode of Sana CDs they had -- two full albums and two CD singles, neither of which I had, one of which has a live DVD with it too! Holy crap, I'm in Sana heaven. At that point I decided spending more money was a bad idea, aside from food, and so I got dinner at a kaiten sushi place in the big building right by the station. It was actually remarkably good -- I've always thought of Akihabara as lacking good places to eat, but maybe they've changed that. I also got excellent coffee-flavoured soft ice cream on my way out. Yummy.
After that... I was going to go to Shinjuku, but then decided, screw it, and went to Ikebukuro, where I checked both the Lions merchandise counter at Seibu, and the sporting goods section at Parco, and neither have baseball cards (well... Parco has Topps cards, from MLB, but that wasn't really what I had in mind). On the other hand, I've got a few packs of cards already... I shouldn't expect to get all the players I like :)
Then I came to the internet cafe, which is where I am now.
And in theory the next time I internet anyone, it'll be from Seattle.
So, bye!
