Japan Chapter 5. In which our heroes travel to Nara and meet some deer.

Carl and I went to Nara today. It was raining all morning, but we didn't get there until noonish anyway. At the JR Nara station we got conned into buying all-day bus passes, and then a nice old lady who spoke English well gave us suggestions to places to go, which led to us going to Yakushiji which was very old and in the middle of nowhere. After that we took the bus to the better part of Nara and went to Kasuga Taisha and saw lots of temple buildings, and then we also went to Todaiji, where we saw a big freaking Buddha.

It's called Daibutsuden, but it might as well be Dobutsuen, because oh my god, Nara is FULL OF DEER. They were EVERYWHERE in that area, and acted like a cross between a dog and a squirrel... begging people for food and following them around and all. I mean, these deer were so tame you could pet them and everything. Only problem is that they left deer droppings all over the damn place, so if you go to Nara -- pet the deer, but look down at your feet.

Um, after that we came back here, and I ended up talking to the guy at the hotel desk in Japanese and English again and now I'm sure he thinks I'm even weirder since I was mentioning doramas and more baseball stuff.

Carl and I went out to get dinner -- we ended up getting curry, and then got lost all around this area trying to find the Umeda Sky Building, which we finally did find, and which we went up, and it is OMGSCARY, because they have these crazy freestanding elevators and escalators and all, and lots of glass, and as it turns otu we're actualy both afraid of heights. Oops.

Umm, I should probably give up the computer now so bye.
