Picnicking and other fun
Today I went to the SCS/ECE alumni Seattle picnic.
Cons:
Stehlik wasn't there.
Pros:
Lots of other people I hadn't seen in ages were there.
Free food.
Nice weather.
I picked up
jcreed and
jccw from the Sheraton where their big smart-logic-people conference was, and drove to Lincoln Park. I got lost on the way because Fauntleroy Street splits off without telling you so. Parking was pretty bad, but eh. We get there, and it's like, "Where's Mark?" and Tina Carr's like, "Oh, he had to go take care of his parents this weekend," so, hmm. Never let it be said Tina's not brilliant, because she knew if she actually told people that in advance, nobody would show up.
Plus, "Hey, where's Mark?" became a pretty good conversation-starter for the rest of the day.
People I saw:
muppetaphrodite (finally!),
agh, Jason Lucas,
genericman, Jason Crawford, Guy Bialostocki, Will Frank, Chad McDaniel (and his wife Tina), Ross Comer,
dleung8, his friend Rory, Eric Leese, Brian Grunkemeyer (who got lost at the park and called me for directions), Matt Centurion,
papertygre (and a guy who I guess must have been
alacrity), and a girl named Melitta who was like "Everyone says I have to meet you!" which still throws me off, because I forget a lot lately that I used to be a popular person. (But she had a loon necklace, and I can always talk about ducks and volleyball.)
There were other people there too who I didn't talk to, some of whom looked familiar, some of whom didn't, and then I guess there were some I briefly talked to but didn't catch the names of, as well. I'm also probably forgetting a few. Also, I mean, Zach and Mindy and Oren were there but I see them all the time!
Randy Bryant was there, and I'm pretty sure he still thinks I'm one of the most annoying people on the planet. It's almost amusing to me at this point.
There was a funny moment of walking up to three guys and saying "Hi, Jason, and Jason, and Jason!"
All in all it was a blast to catch up with people -- the worst is being like, "We should hang out sometime! ....in a month or so goddamnit because I'm going to Japan in September and spending the rest of the month either working, doing baseball stuff, or preparing for my trip. Ack."
But, since I actually live walking distance of Will Frank now (technically... it's as walking distance as Chinook's is), hopefully we'll actually, like, hang out again. And I got a schedule of Cheryl's upcoming shows, so hopefully I can get to one sometime! And Brian and I will hopefully start our restaurant expeditions again in the fall... I hope. I wonder if Dave Quinn's still around, come to think of it.
Anyway, I drove Jason and James back to the conference thingy afterwards, and I came home to watch some baseball, then went on an errand-running mission to Fred Meyer (the Fred Meyer in Ballard is SO DAMN COOL). I got the things I was looking for -- namely, some new barettes/clips for my hair because I need to find a way to keep it out of my face without pulling it all back -- and a plastic organizer thingy to keep said hair stuff in so I stop losing them... and then I ended up also looking through clothes. Oddly, I picked up two pairs of jeans because I was curious how they'd fit, and they were on sale, and even odder, they both fit PERFECTLY, so I bought them. Also, I ran into
zenspider for like two seconds, but he seemed busy, so it was like "Oh! I recognize you! Hi! How are you? Bye!"
I also went to Safeway afterwards and wanted to get some healthy food, so I ended up buying a bunch of fruit. Only when I got home and stuffed my face with fruit for dinner did I realize that there's a good chance I may not be able to finish it all before it goes bad. Oops.
I unpacked some boxes (I have some that are sort of non-essential and thus haven't been done yet), organized some crap, and listened to the Bee Gees while doing so. I wish I didn't feel so overwhelmed and yet underbooked for the next week. There's so much stuff I can/should be doing.
