Slowly making progress
Today I woke up a little earlier and got Taste of India food on time to get what I wanted (kofta saag). Woo. I beat Carl by like half an hour to the lounge, even. I was sad to see in the Tartan where SDC went back on what they said and phrased it as "if we have leftover money we might buy a Dance Dance Revolution machine". Bastards. Oh well.
I went to talk to Mark. He seemed to think there were several openings that would be good for me and he said he'd put in a good word and forward me job postings. Yay Mark! Mark rules! He is the coolest advisor on the face of the planet.
While on my way to talk to Mark, I ran into my friend John, who is a 5th-year CS PhD student. He was like, "Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?" I replied, "Uhh... going to a conference? Going on vacation? Eh?" and he said, "I'm defending!" and I was like you're DEFENDING? ALREADY? Aren't you a 5th year?" and sure enough, he is defending. He's sort of insane though, so I guess it makes sense. So if anyone's interested in machine learning and complexity bounds, check out his thesis oral tomorrow. (That link might only work if you're local to CMU. I'm not sure.
Wow, now that I have time on my hands, maybe I can start seeing my friends' thesis proposals and defenses and stuff. Whee!
I played a game of Lost Cities with Carl and then went to WhizBang, where I was supposed to have my exit interview, except the papers haven't arrived yet from Provo. Oops. So I mostly hung out with Cat, Fred, and Josh for a while, and got my bike and bike helmet to bring home, and got a couple files off my computer. I think I actually accidentally deleted a ton of relevant stuff in a hurry on Friday... oh well. Their loss. James said it's very unlikely anyone will even care about the stuff I left for everyone info wise, so plplplpl.
I came home, then went right back to campus. I picked up my pictures from the UC and played some pinball. So now I have the Laura and Willie "wedding" pictures and lots of kitten pictures. I'll be scanning them sometime in the near future.
I went back to Wean and put SC3K on John (different John)'s computer in the CS lounge, so now I can waste even more time there. I also hung out for a little while with people, and even played bridge with Noble, Babailey, and Babailey's friend Chris for like 15 minutes. Then I went to the first floor of Wean and met up with Eli, Alex, and Dave, so we could get picked up by Kevin and go to the Church Brew Works for dinner, where we met up with shafeeq and kfc and Larry Greenfield. That was fun! I was really bouncy and happy for most of dinner. Whee! It's funny, you can really get stuff a lot quicker if you smile a lot. I got menus and drinks and everything and the waiter seemed to think I was in charge of our group. Heh. I was like "you have to get the ice cream here! See, there's Dave and Andy's, and they make ice cream, and there's the CBW, which makes beer, and see, they send beer one way and get beer ice cream back, see... Just, uh, picture a Venn diagram." When the waiter came back I was like "tell them about how the beer gets into ice cream!" and he explained about malt syrup and stuff. Whee.
Anyway. I came home and scanned some more Laurel and Jason pictures, converted all of the PSD pictures to JPG, and "webbified" a few of them, either brightening or cropping or whatever, and burned a CD. Yay! Now I can go ahead and do the same for Laura and Willie's pictures, when I get a chance (I could have done theirs tonight, but Laurel and Jason got married in October and I can't believe I still haven't done all this). So. Yay.
Time for some more DDR I think, then bed.
