Weekend
So yeah, I guess I last really wrote on Thursday night.
Friday I went to work. It was average. Nobody was there. After work I came home and finished packing, and
oren came by and gave me a ride to the airport. I got there in plenty of time and went and bought a box of chocolate chip cookies to travel with. Cookies make everything good.
The flights were fairly uneventful. I barely slept on the SEA-CLT leg and read a bit of Baseball Between the Numbers, but I totally conked out for the CLT-PIT leg. That gave me a sum total of like, 2 hours sleep for the night. I got to Pittsburgh and got on the 28x and came here to Carl's place.
We sat around talking a bit, then I noticed Django had sent me an IM, so eventually it ended up being lunch at the Church Brew Works --
ketsugami and
harinezumi picked up me and Carl, and
garzahd and
cyfis came down from the Shady House, and we all sat outside on the CBW patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather for several hours there. I miss CBW patio parties, as anyone who recalls my birthdays around 2000-2002 can attest ;)
Afterwards Carl and I came back here, and we went shopping at the new Giant Eagle for a little while (yay! birch beer!) and then we ordered tickets to the Pirates game and headed downtown. Good thing, too, since the kiosks took about five seconds when you preorder. (Bayani -- I'm really sorry, but by that point it was too late to try to find Dave). Anyway, we went to the game and had excellent seats and it was an awesome game! I'm writing up a game summary on Marinerds but wanted to finish my LJ entry before finishing that. The Pirates won 2-1 and Jason Bay got on base 4 times without getting a hit. Craig Wilson is awesome and scored both runs. I think he will be my pet Pirate this year instead of Rob Mackowiak. Zach Duke was also pretty good pitching. I like him.
After the game we went through the Pirates store a bit and I finally got the Jason Bay t-shirt I'd passed on last year because they didn't have one in my size, and then we bussed home and pretty much crashed. I mean, I fell asleep on the floor first and then actually got up and leveled the futon couch.
Today, we slept late, and went to campus to play the World of Warcraft board game!
dvarin and
ketsugami and
harinezumi were the Alliance, and me and
garzahd and
platypuslord were the Horde. We sort of won. Well, more like, we started the game at 1:30pm and by the time it was like, 8:30-9ish we were fighting the final battles and it was obvious that the Horde was going to win -- after all, we were all at level 5 and only Carl was still at level 4 with the Alliance -- but the fights were going fairly slowly, so after four rounds we just called it rather than sitting around prolonging it, mostly because we were all hungry as heck. I played a Warrior again and really enjoyed it, even though I fell one die short of rolling all 21. I think that everyone did a pretty good job playing their characters through despite it being a first time for them all -- Dan in particular did some pretty good optimizations. And Kon went for the badass rogue instead of stealth, and I think it served him well. The funniest part was how everyone would make World of Warcraft jokes, like from the real game, and I would laugh too, and they'd be like "But you don't even PLAY the game!" and I was trying to explain that I don't actually HAVE to play Warcraft to get all the jokes. Seriously. By fiber be purged!
bhudson came by on his way back from Subway, and he was headed to Chicken Swing, and I promised I'd come by, but by the time we finished playing WoW, it was late and I was starved, so I ended up ducking out of that and we lost Dan and instead picked up Deryck (!!!!!) and went to Gullifty's (where I also saw Christina Dinwoodie and Abe Wong for a minute, heh, it's nice to be in a city where I run into people) and hung out eating a lot of garlic food and desserts and yum. They still do have a freaking awesome Reuben sandwich, and awesome desserts, even though I know Gullifty's is highly overrated. Also, Deryck is awesome and I'm so glad I got to see him again since it had been forever and ever. He's one of those people who astounds me by being so cool and yet being such a complete and utter dork like the rest of us.
Anyway, after dinner people parted to their separate homes -- it was like 11pm by then -- Carl and I came back here and I made him watch the first episode of Kurosagi with me, since it just aired in Japan like, two nights ago, and I figured it couldn't hurt to have another Japanese-comprehending set of ears on it. I think we got most of what was going on. It's SO weird to see Yamapi and Horikita Maki in such completely different roles, though, and I'm sort of wondering where the plot of the show is going to go next. But, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be after reading some reviews. After that, we watched the third episode of Gokusen 2. I hope we watch more of it this week. It was fun, even if formulaic.
Carl went to sleep and I am trying to catch up on net stuff, though I want to sleep soon too. I'm going to try to get up and do some work tomorrow during the day. I have no plans for lunch or for the evening, though if nothing else comes up in the evening I'll just head down to PNC to see Jason Marquis pitch against the Pirates, and then I'll feel guilty (but he is one of my favorite pitchers, despite being on the Cardinals). We shall see. My cellphone number is in a friends-locked post if you want to try to get in touch with me, or I'll be phone-logged into AIM too.
