Vegas, Day 4

I'm back in Seattle. It's Pi Day! Yay! I'm going to reload this entry to post it at exactly 1:59am because I AM A BIG NERD.

Anyway, so after I posted my entry last night, heavens forbid, I actually went to sleep for a few hours. I woke up for a bit in the middle of the night, then went back to sleep again, until around 10:30am. I was pretty amazed that I'd managed to sleep that much, but then I realized that half the house was gone to a poker tournament that morning. So it was a nice slow morning of waking up, getting showered/dressed, etc. Lemur actually made breakfast for people because Fish was at the tournament, and I was sorely tempted to just have birthday cake for breakfast (but instead had it for lunch. Har).

Joe put Wallace and Gromit and the Were-Rabbit on the TV, so we all watched that, while in the meantime the rest of the Loots straggled in from their various hotels and tournaments. Jay placed second overall in the poker tournament (I think there were 77 entrants?), because he is a scary scary poker player. Everyone seemed amused by the whole thing, though.

After some debating about stuff and looking things up on the web, we determined that the Star Trek Experience was not worth the money, and Zylphryx suggested going to the Red Rocks Canyon or whatever, so we did that. Jacq, Joe, Zyl, Sal and I got in the car and Zyl drove us over. It was pretty cool, mostly an in-car tour, 13 miles with various picnic areas and checkpoints. We'd drive a bit, get out, walk around, take a lot of pictures, get back in, drive more. It was pretty nice. They had these huge red mountains, so I joked that we were starting the Cult of the Red Mountains to face off against the Red Mantis.

We got back from that and it was pretty late, relatively, like 5pm. Leclerc had a flight about an hour before ours, so Squid took him to the airport, and pretty much right when Squid got back, it was time for us to go to the airport. So I hugged everyone goodbye and we were on our way. In the airport, I actually played the Star Wars slot machine again. I was bored, and it was sort of like playing a videogame anyway, I got these minigames that involved fighting Darth Vader and whatnot.

We had two flights. The Vegas-SF leg wasn't so bad, and I spent most of it spacing out or asleep. The SF-Seattle leg sucked, there was a lot of fog and rain and turbulence and I often felt like I was going to diiiiiiiiiiiiie. However, I didn't. We got back okay, and Chris had lost his parking ticket, so we found out that the airport actually DOES keep track of the license plates of cars that come in and out, because he said when he came in and the airport apparently verified it. Good to know.

Now I am home. Yay.

My mail was full of bills. Also, the Seattle Public Library seems to think I didn't return a book that I returned three weeks ago, so that's another thing to take care of.

I didn't take a ton of pictures this trip, but I'll try to upload them soon.

Also, yeah, I've left out details about a bunch of things, either by laziness or on purpose. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right?

One weird thing about Vegas, and I guess it's the middle of the desert so this isn't surprising, but it was REALLY dry. I kept waking up during the night needing to drink water because my throat was raw and dry, and today I even had a nosebleed while we were watching Wallace and Gromit. The thicker skin on my arms is all dry and flaky now, too.

A really funny thing for me right now is reading over these last few entries and realizing the stream-of-consciousness and the way I'm referring to people by real names and/or PP names interchangeably. I was telling Chris in the car on the way home that you can tell how well I think I know someone by what name I refer to them as, with the exception of the Minneapolis crew, since Squid and Fish trained me to not use their real names.

Anyway, despite how much I worried about this trip, I guess I did have a pretty good time overall. I have shoutouts, but I have to reload and post this right now because it's 1:59, so maybe I'll edit them in.

It's always a grand time to hang out with Squid and Lemur and Fish, because they are the coolest people on the planet. I should try to get to Minneapolis sometime this summer.
I'm also really happy whenever I get to see Garbuck; I think if we didn't live 3000 miles apart, we'd have a lot of fun always hanging out and playing board games and talking about sports.
It was wonderful to meet Leclerc at long last, even if I committed the dire sin of comparing his British accent to a New Zealand accent. He is a pretty spiffy guy.
It was good to get to see Sigil again, though we didn't really get to talk much this trip, he still made me laugh a lot when we did.
I hope Madam eventually got her real sushi dinner, because otherwise I'll feel bad for voting against Nobu.
Harrley made me laugh a ton with her Hulk impressions during Robo Rally.
Despite that originally I thought February would be better than March for this trip, it's a good thing we were able to do spring break for Wildrose and Burr, since they're really such nice people, and we also got to have the birthday party for Burr.
Finally meeting Cobrani was pretty spiffy, though for some reason I expected her to be taller! Maybe it's the boots? I kept thinking she reminded me of someone, but it still hasn't clicked who.
Whereas with Zylphryx, he basically reminded me of a cross between Penn Gillette, and my college friend Van Butler. Zyl was probably the most Vegas-like of anyone in our group. Also, puppies.
I'm really glad I got to see several of my crewmates, too... I know Barrister won't be at Carnival, and I never feel like I get to talk to him enough in person.
Jacquilynne probably wanted to kill me by the end of the weekend, but I think we had a lot of fun hanging out, even if we didn't sleep together or play Apples to Apples.
I felt bad for Sal because he wasn't staying at the big house, and it was super-nice of him to provide rides for people, and to travel with me to/from Seattle, and being patient with me at the airports when I was being all freaked out.
Tamsin didn't have nearly enough time to hang out with the gang, but I'm glad she came by for what she could, and our shopping trip was awesome.
I am glad Raiva was there because otherwise I would have probably looked pretty silly saying "WAT" all weekend.
I can't believe Liani actually slept in a closet for the weekend, even if the closet is almost as big as my room at home. That's dedication.
While I didn't really know Falkenberg before, and I still don't know him after, I have to admire the way he was able to put up with a gaggle of Loots all weekend.
And while Damienroc probably still doesn't realize that I consider him one of my closest friends, I'm glad he was able to come down for the trip, to have a birthday party, to be someone I could just sort of stick with when I wasn't sure where I was going, to put up with me and my arcade scouring yet again, and to make sure I didn't get stranded without a ride. Yeah, I probably annoy him to death too, but hey. Jeff is teh awesome.

Yeah... I should go try to sleep. To sleep, perchance to work.
