Boston Red Sucks
Maybe my Boston friends can explain this one to me: how the HELL do you get tickets to a Red Sox game on a weekend without either Ebay or getting a "standing room" or single "obstructed seat" ticket?
I had been thinking it'd be a fun idea to go to Boston for their series against the Phillies in June since I've never been to Fenway, but the series is ALREADY pretty much sold out. Jesus. It sounds like if I want to go to a game at Fenway and not pay a fortune, I'll have to go to one alone, on a weekend against a sucky team, which I guess is just as well, because showing up in a Phillies jersey by myself might get me killed anyway. But still.
(huh, would showing up in a Sox t-shirt with Damon 18 on the back get me killed now too? heh.)

I really just sort of want to go to Boston...
would it help your cause for season tickets if I tried to get seats near you guys or anything? I think I can still get my seats changed, maybe.

1. be on the ball, get super lucky in the virtual waiting room the day tickets go on sale.
2. put your name in the raffle for monster seat/right field roof seats and hope you get chosen to buy tickets
3. luck out and happen to be looking the day of a ticket drop
4. day of game tickets- they hold a certain amount of tickets to sell day of game. (and if you don't get any from there, there is never a lack of scalpers outside a game)
Last year, I managed to get a fair amount of tickets through Red Sox Nation, which cost me $10. Overall, it paid for itself since I got MLB Audio, and some oppurtunities to buy tickets.
I've managed to get some decent priced seats off of ebay in the past.

it sounds like you have some good job leads... eventually something will come through.

do you want to go to a Sox-Phillies game? :) or are there any other weekend games you might go to this year?
maybe I'll just keep an eye out on Ebay for a bit and then figure out how feasible it all is. Or maybe I'll just go to Boston in the offseason and just tour Fenway and never see a game there.

You could try stubhub.com or other sites like that, closer to the game; day of game seats are an option but the lines are horrendous and the numbers of seats variable. Also, locals (i.e. people who live in and around Boston, not 50 miles away like me) tell me that it's easy to get reasonably priced tickets right outside the ballpark around the top of the second, but I've never tried it personally. *snerk* I'll probably try it someday, but if it doesn't work for me all I'm out is train fare.
On the other hand, if you want to come to Boston for a weekend badly enough, you'd have 2 or 3 opportunities to try to get in even if you don't find anything reasonable online beforehand. I even managed to get someone to sell me a ticket for face value shortly before game start once. (A $80 ticket, granted, but at least it really WAS a $80 ticket, as opposed to when I paid about three times face value on stubhub to get a seat in the first row of the 40 triangle. That was an awesome seat, though -- section 40 is in the outfield bleachers, but it's directly behind the home bullpen. Pity that game was shortly after Schilling went back into the rotation.)
I'm going to see the Red Sox / Mariners game on Patriots Day, which makes me a happy girl. I'll probably wear my Olerud Red Sox shirt. ^_^

I've been able to buy tickets at the last minute off of craigslist - if you check the week of the game, you can usually find someone willing to sell decent seats for a reasonable amount above face...

One of the advantages of having a crap team at home is that great seats are ALWAYS available at face value.

a ticket drop is when they randomly release blocks of tickets for games.
i would love going to a sox philly game. i haven't figured out what games i'm going to this year, mostly because i totally flaked on the on-sale date. *shakes head*
i'll keep my eye out for tickets, and if you go here, you can sign up for the drawing for the chance to buy monster/right field roof seats.
you probably won't get killed for wearing a damon shirt, unless it was a yankees damon shirt. ;) not really for a phillies shirt, either. i've been to orioles game wearing orange before without a problem.
