Boring day, and my 2005 new-year-resolution evaluation
I didn't leave my apartment at all today. Ah well. I was too sore to go to the gym still, sadly -- that's really the only annoying part.
I did, however, build my shelf-wardrobe thingy, and I fixed my Pop'n'Music controller and ordered Bemani games, and I played a bunch of Pop'n, and I did laundry, and I ate leftover meatloaf for dinner, and I idled around in some PP tournaments, and I worked on my Perl script to input/output Japanese baseball schedules (note to
the2belo,
oren, and
dvarin -- the Dragons play the Bay Stars in Gifu on July 8th and play the Swallows in Kanazawa on July 11th), and... yeah.
Not an exciting day, but it wasn't a total waste, either. Also, I moved my t-shirts into the wardrobe, and now I have my two bookshelves I was using for t-shirts back to use for books again. Whee!
So, to give some content to this entry, I'm going to take a look back at the New Year's Resolutions I made for this year and see how I did, since there's only a week left of the year...
1) Find a good job that makes me happy.
Well, I found a good job -- I don't know if it makes me happy -- I really love the side parts, like working downtown and being an actual programmer and getting to write Perl and all. I don't really think I like working in a place with no geeks or young people -- but, eh, them's the breaks for now, I guess. And things might change after we officially merge into GE in a week or two anyway.
2) Continue working on meeting new people. (Meet at least two new people per month. Have at least 5 new "real friends" by the end of the year.)
I did work more on meeting new people. I think I did meet on average two new people per month, although I don't know how many turned into "real friends", at least of people who actually live in the same city as I do. I also don't know how to count some people -- I was thinking "real friends" would be people I actually hang out with on a regular basis or something, but eh. I mean, I ran into one of my baseball-blog friends at about 20 games this year, but does that count?
3) Read more unread books, watch more unwatched movies. (2-3 books a month, 3 movies a month.)
Oh holy crap did I meet this on books -- I think I read around 4 books a month on average, if not more. However, I didn't do such a hot job of watching my random unwatched movies. Oh well.
4) Travel to 4 cities I've never been to.
I didn't hit this. I went to Minneapolis and Key West. I could cheat and say I went to Richmond BC (but it's really just a suburb of Vancouver) and wherever we were in New Jersey that Nick's family lives, but that's also just sort of a suburb of NYC really.
If I'd made my goal "4 baseball stadiums I'd never been to", I actually made that -- the Everett Aquasox stadium, the Metrodome in Minneapolis, RFK Stadium in Washington DC, and Yankee Stadium in NYC.
5) Do actual baseball writing, not just occasional links and babblings. (1 article per three attended games.)
Well, I think I hit this pretty well -- I had a lot of great articles I wrote on Marinerds this year, at least in my opinion, beyond just game reports and whatnot.
6) Write 10 new songs. Write one completely original song (lyrics and music).
My Filk Page shows that I wrote 19 songs in 2005, and that's not even counting short things like my "Yule Laugh! Yule Cry! Yule Sing!" series on Marinerds. However, I didn't do original lyrics AND music at any point. I guess in theory, I could write a song this week, eh?
7) Spend less money. Manage my possessions better.
So, actually, I think I did this, sort of -- most of my big expenditures this year were on TRAVEL, not on STUFF. I also gave away a significant amount of old clothes and such to Goodwill and sold books to Half-Price. Considering I spent four months of 2005 unemployed, I actually managed to save some money, so I'm proud of myself for that.
8) Go dancing at least once every two months.
Alright, so on average I almost hit this - I went once in March, once in April, twice in July, and once in November. That's 5 times for 12 months. HEY BRIAN WE NEED TO GO BALLROOM DANCING NEXT YEAR OKAY?
Joke Goals:
1) Stop playing puzzle pirates
I did stop for the most part during the baseball season, but alas.
2) Stop posting long things on livejournal
Hahaha no.
3) See a baseball game in the Sapporo Dome
Next summer. No, really. I'm trying to figure out exactly when, so I can go to all 12 stadiums.
4) Lose weight
No, but I did join the gym and get into better shape -- so I think a lot more of my current weight is muscle and less of it is fat, at least.
5) Clean my apartment
I just cleaned it for like the fourth time this year! Heh.
