back

I'm back from NYC. About to go head into work for a few hours and catch up on things.

I've come to the conclusion that I really need some shoes that aren't sneakers, but I'm worried about finding ones that I can actually walk on, what with my knee and arch problems. I wonder if such a thing as orthopedic sandals exist (that don't look awful).

Flight wasn't too bad. Given that I got up at 4:15am and Nick drove me to the airport then, it shouldn't strike anyone as odd that I slept for 4 hours of the 5-hour flight.

The one good thing about being back here is that it's lovely, 65 degrees or so, sunny, and not humid and all. Aside from that, I think I'd rather still be in NYC.

You should ask Heidi about good walking shoes - she seems to be sort of picky with her feet, but manages to have stylish footwear anyway.

I love my chacos, as far as sandals go, and i think they are plenty supportive and cushy.

you might want to try Dansko shoes. They make shoes for nurses and so on, but also super-comfy and attractive shoes for regular folks.

Oh yes. Danskos are awesome. i resisted buying them for years, but after i finally gave in, I fell completely in love. i just bought my second pair (sandals) and I couldn't be happier.

Eccos are also good. Expensive, but good. Chacos are good sandals as well... poor [livejournal.com profile] homullus has what he considers terrible feet, and he adores his Chacos. Very supportive, replaceable Vibram sole.

Welcome back!

yeah, I always hated paying money for shoes, but Danskos...mmm. One thing I NEVER remember about them is that I need to get 39s, not 40s. 40s fit PERFECTLY in the store, but are too big when they're broken in. The leather uppers on 39s are a little too tight in the store, so I should buy those.

I forget this every time. But it's worth remembering - for any good leather shoe, the leather will loosen up quite a bit.

My dad, who is an ER doc, has worn nothing but Eccos for years. When you're on your feet for a 12 hour shift, you need shoes of that quality!

BUY THEM ON EBAY. I am currently wearing a pair of brand-new, first-quality Danskos that retail for $114.95. After I checked my size in a store like a smarty (I wear a 41 regularly, including on my clompy Dansko Professionals with the backs, but in backless sandals I went with a 40), I purchased them for $79 (including shipping). That was a Buy It Now! sale-- you can get cheaper if you aren't desperate to get a particular style or color RIGHT NOW.

Also, remember that they have different styles and soles. I have the classic ones, but they have others which are a bit more streamlined ifyou prefer that sort of thing.

I hereby ecco the endorsement for Ecco, which gave me both my best sandals and my favorite walking shoes.

I would also rather you still be in NYC.

Yeah, I was about to say "chacos!"

My arches are two thousand feet tall, so the chacos aren't nearly supportive enough, but they're way, way better than any other shoes I have. And some of their models -- not the ones I have -- are really cute (in my weird-ass opinion).

Dansko sandals kick ass. I prefer them over tennis shoes.

I walk around (carrying my 20 pound baby) in Birkenstocks. In normal shoes, my feet always hurt before long. Now they never hurt. Just about everybody at my local (German) hospital wears them. Birkenstocks come in a wide varierty of styles now - I recommend doing a search on their webpage http://www.birkenstock.com/

Eccos are great, like Josef Seibel shoes. They give arch support and are incredibly comfortable for a walk around the store or across town. But if I'm going to do a lot of walking, I want shoes with shock absorption, which they lack.
