My arms ache

Went to the gym with Megan and Heidi; did weightlifting on my arms. I think it'll get better with time. I am working on learning the names of the exercises, not just "the twisty thingy with the cable weight machine". We watched part of the Mariners games while walking on treadmills. Now there's a good deal, go to the gym because they have Mariners games on TV.

I went to GI Joe's after that and I replaced my New Balance 765's since they have been kind of falling apart lately (I've had them for like a year and three months. How often are you supposed to replace sneakers anyway?) and I had a coupon that Megan gave me from the race thingy last weekend. So instead of spending a hundred bucks to replace my shoeses, I spent $65, and I even got the exact same shoes. Yay.

Did grocery shopping, and then called to see if I could come over and watch Queer Eye, except Josh informed me that we got the times wrong, so they only got part of it on Tivo, but it's going to re-air and they can Tivo it then, so hopefully I'll get to see it before D&D on Thursday.

The Mariners picked Jeff Clement, a USC catcher, with their first-round draft pick (3rd overall). I think it's a really wise choice; we need catchers and we need them soon. This guy could be contending for the M's starting catcher job as soon as 2007, some people are saying. I only wonder if a 44-year-old Pat Borders would still be the backup catcher at that point.

I really should cement July 4th plans soon. I really shouldn't keep wistfully looking at plane ticket prices to Tokyo. Sigh.

athletic shoes

I just bought a new pair of athletic shoes from easyspirit.com. They were on sale too. Originally $75 and I got them for $50. They specialize in different levels of activity and their shoes come in different widths.

Depends on the shoe and the amount of wear you put on them. I had two pairs of Nike high tops that I alternated between for 8 years. I had two pairs of Reeboks that started falling apart within 6 months. Of the current two pairs I've had since 12/02, the Nikes show very little damage and the Oakleys are showing damage.

I bought my last pair in 2000... granted, I haven't worn them so much since last summer, and the upper part is falling apart (the soles are fine). So let's say they lasted me 4 years.

New Balance shoes seem to have a lifetime of one year.

I thought the point of Tivo was that you didn't have to worry about getting the times right; you just say "record 'Queer Eye' for me". Do I have that wrong?

Um, but, the showing last night started at 7, and i didn't get home until 7:30. We'd thought it was going to start at 10. No problem, there was another showing at 8am today.

Yeah.

Actually, running shoe life spans are measured in mileage, usually, and i can't remember what the figure was. If you use shoes for running, a rule of thumb i've heard is once/year. (Heidi, hear that?!) Of course, if you use them for everything they'll wear out more quickly.

Another interesting fact is that shoes will wear out more quickly if you wear them every day (even measured in mileage, i think). There is something about switching shoes to allow each pair to completely dry out, etc., between wearings that seems to help their longevity.

At any rate, i'll wear much shittier shoes for walking around campus than i would for running. I think if you're going to start walking alot good shoes will help your knees, help your gait be correct, and overall just help. You could still wear the old shoes for things like bumming around.

Oh yeah, and YAY.

Ah! Ok, thanks. I interpreted this as "we programmed the TiVo wrong" rather than "we didn't get to it in time", and that made me wonder.

"I think it'll get better with time."

Definetely. Don't let initial soreness or anything like that discourage you. That's totally natural. You just need to give your body time to get used to this new thing you're doing to it. You might even find that you can up your weight more than you think in the first few weeks, just because you might have some psychological blocks about your capabilities if you haven't done weightlifting a lot. Good luck w/ it! ^_^

Besides, she's jumped into our workouts so its already a pretty tough workout. She's been kicking ass.
