How I learned to stop worrying and hate my euphonium
I got absolutely nothing done today, and boy do I feel great about it.
Ok, that's not quite true. I fux0red my euphonium.
Well, it was already screwed up, so to speak. I'd been unable all semester to tune the third valve, and towards the end of the semester I became unable to tune the main slide (this wasn't too bad as it was actually stuck in a relatively in-tune position, but annoying because that's not going to last, and because it's worrisome to have it stuck).
So today I decided to give it a nice lukewarm bath on top of a nice plushy towel in our bathtub and clean it out. For the first part, it was much easier than giving a cat a bath. I took out the three valves and cleaned them off, and cleaned out a bathtub, and filled the bathtub and put the euphonium in, and left it there for two or three hours. It just sat there, nice and solemn, underwater, lurking there waiting to strike.
I took it out to clean. The slide brush went through okay up to the valves and through them, and I got a ton of gunk out of there. Then I figured I'd try to take out some of the slides. First valve slide? Nope. Third? Nope. Main? Stuck worse than ever.
I wonder if this happened from the time I put some valve oil on my main slide to try to get it out a few months ago... I bet that just made it worse.
Well, to put a long story short, the euphonium is playable, but just as fux0red as before, and I'd like to get it fixed. Of course, I realized how fux0red it was at around 5:30pm, and the Pittsburgh Volkwein's closes at 5pm Saturdays and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Grrrr.
I still have Tal's second trombone... I think maybe I'll show up to Kiltie for a week or two with a trombone instead until I can get this damn thing fixed. I think the extra Kiltie baritone is actually in worse condition, if that's possible. Sigh.
Simcity is fun. I remember a lot of SimCity this evening. I built this huge city on top of a gigantic mountain. Fun. I guess I could have done something else today, but I didn't feel like it much. Tomorrow we'll go do shopping and things like that. I should get my hair cut. Despite how cool it is to have hair that's only an inch or two short of 3 feet, I think I'm getting sick of the foot of straggle at the end, and that's gotta go. Maybe I'll do that Monday or something. Hmm...
