New adventures in NoHo

Today we went to see LOTR again with Eli's parents and Josh and Brooke. We got there a bit late and ended up sitting in the fourth row of the theater. I liked it better actually because I could get more into the weird perspectives of the directing and all. The movie skipped sound at one point when Gandalf and Bilbo are chatting in the Shire in the beginning, but that was the only real technical difficulty. I noticed that I had a better appreciation for what was going on this time. There were also things to spot, like Galadriel and Elrond being around in the earliest historical scenes (Galadriel wearing a ring, Elrond on the field as is later revealed). I was looking for Legolas on the battlefield at the beginning as well, but I guess he shouldn't be there. (In the movie book for LOTR, he says that Legolas is 2,931 years old, and I thought that synced with the appropriate timeline... oh, there's also this funny thing where Viggo is making fun of dainty haughty elves with their blonde hair and pointy ears and Orlando Bloom replies, "Dude, I'm going to live forever. Got that? Live forever." or something.) Anyway.

After LOTR, we played DDR on the 3rd mix machine outside the theater. Eli and I did some songs and then I was like "i will teach you guys to play! come play!" so Brooke got on the machine with me and we did two songs and she thought it was really fun. Eli's dad also got on for a song with Eli, but gave up so I finished it up for him. Then I did some SSR songs (my usuals, but I did Follow the Sun SSR third because it's different than the one I have at home). Then we went to dinner.

Dinner was indian food. They made everything much more spicy than we thought it should be. It was good except for that. It's wacky going out to "family dinner" with 9 people... but Eli's grandparents wanted to take us all out again or something.

We went home and after digesting some food I took out DDR for the playstation (I brought the American version (thanks Carl!) and one pad, and Brooke played the "easy" version with one foot songs for a while. She got up to the point where she could get A's on a lot of those songs, and then Eli and I played a few songs because his grandparents were watching (they weren't at the mall/movie theater with us earlier) and stuff. Then we knitted some more and then we played Boggle; first just me and Eli and Josh, then Brooke joined in, then Eli's dad joined in. I won, wheeeee. One round I got the word "allele" which was really cool, and the next round, which ended up being the last, I got 59 points (with five people playing!) because I found the word tortoise and tortoises. With our power-of-two scoring, they were worth 16 and 32 points respectively. Whee... Oh yeah, it was funny. One round I found the words "spooge" and "spooger" but since Eli's dad was playing and Eli's grandma was sitting next to me I wasn't about to write those down. So I scribbled it on a post-it when we were going through our lists and I told Eli "...you can find this word..." and wouldn't let anyone else see it. So after all the adults left the kitchen and we were still sitting around, the five of us kid-types had a pretty good laugh over that. Especially because of this custard sauce for the ice cream rolls... errr, I won't go there.

I have like 5-6 inches of a sock knitted now. It seems pretty big, but I think my calves are big enough to make up for it no matter how large I make the sock. We'll see though. They probably will end up like Japanese schoolgirl loose socks. (But you know, if they do and I am good at making them and they don't take forever, I could be commissioned to make pairs for other people that won't cost you $30 on Ebay... just the cost of the yarn and of shipping if relevant)

I guess that's it for now. I know these entries are probably pretty boring to those of you who don't actually know me that well in real life, but... I'm not reading LJ often enough to just post random thoughts. LJ friends are weird that way.
