California so far
I'm at Rif/Muffy's place in San Francisco now, and should basically be here for the next week and a half or so.
Last night Roman and I hit Saratoga around 11pm or midnight... we went to his new boss's house since that's where he is staying for his trip, and it was ok for me to stay there for a night too. His boss is like this oldskool Andrew systems guy (John something? Leone?) who knows *everyone* in the galaxy so I talked to him for a while, then logged in fer a bit, then went to sleep. Was hard to sleep though. Hm.
Today we got up and went to Santa Cruz. (We first got to watch John and a friend and their yellow Labradors playing though. It was kinda sad to watch because they tossed one of the dogs into the pool and he was terrified and whimpering. Aww.) We stopped in Capitola at a K-mart so I could get flipflops and a towel and whatnot, and then went to SC... after a little mishap we found our way onto the Seabright beach around noonish.
Lotsa people were there. At one point or another, lemme try to remember, we had me, Roman, Andrew (Alford), Oren, Carl E, Simon, Stevie, Adam, Rehana, Bolson, Camille, Lydia, Lydia's friend whose name I forget, Kevin Shiue, Becca, Vince, Allwein, Schuresko and his wife (Laura, right?), Sheena, Alan Charness... hmm I think that's it. Anyway yeah. We grilled food over a bonfire, and people sat around talking, and a whole bunch of us kept going in and out of the ocean. At one point Andrew and Camille and Oren and I walked over to the boardwalk. That ruled. Camille got a hat and went back, Oren got to the arcade with me and then went back, Andrew went swim-trunks-shopping and then met me at the arcade and we walked back together.
The arcade rules rules rules :) All these old awesome arcade machines and pinball machines! I got 4 tokens and managed to get in 2 games of Cyclone and 4 games of Hurricane fer it. I got mad replays at Hurricane. GOD, I love those two. Would give anything for a local Cyclone machine. Anyway. Got ice cream and headed back.
I was actually wearing a bathing suit for the day (yes, in public, first time in like two years) so I decided to try jumping in the ocean with Andrew and Simon and people. I didn't think I'd get in above my waist, but eventually they got me all the way out to the point that I was shoulder-deep. It was COLD. Anyway, we were jumping waves and I took one the wrong way and I got totally slammed by the wave, knocked underwater and almost undertowed back in. It was really kinda scary. (I also lost my scrunchie.) I managed to get my head back above water and was coughing and sputtering and Andrew helped me get out of the ocean and catch my breath and ugh it just sort of sucked, I had sand up my nose and saltwater taste in my mouth for a while after that.
At some point Kevin decided to build a sandcastle at the edge of the tide and that entertained a whole bunch of us for at least an hour. We were building up walls and towers and playing with sand crabs and even had this little girl who came up and helped us and lent us a shovel. Heh.
After that everyone kinda dispersed to the winds.
I ended up going with Andrew because he wanted to go around places but didn't know his way to much. So we stppped by Mike's place briefly, then headed up to Fremont to the Disaster House Party, where we also saw Bolson and Sheena and Roman (but that was it fer picnic people). I did get to see several old friends (like Erik Ogan, and Jonah, and Matt Andrews, and wossname Jon-Anne from kiltie band, and I forget who else). Noah gave me a Fighters jersey he got me in Japan! Yaaay!!
We stuck around a bit until Noah's brother's band was done, and then took off for Berkeley. Went to the house Simon and such live in and played some card and board games for a few hours and hung out. (I feel incredibly guilty that they live literally like 2 blocks from Kui, and I spent so much time there last time I was in Berkeley...) That was fun to see people more. Andrew gave me a ride into the city, and I stayed up a bit talking to Adam and Chris (since Muffy was asleep when I got here) and then plugged in my laptop (yay laptop!) and have been doing PP and catching up on net stuff.
All in all a good day, and tomorrow is 4th of July games-stuff!
