good bye good bye winter vacation

Hi, I have about 200 more work emails to sort through. Coming back from vacation is always... interesting.

We woke up and pretty much went straight to the Bradley International Airport, where I did bad things like eating McNuggets for lunch. I started reading The Head Game : Baseball as seen from the Pitcher's Mound in that airport, and most of what I remember of the rest of the day is reading all 300 pages of it until I finished it about 10 minutes away from Seattle. We did stop in Minneapolis, where there was a lot of snow and worried passengers and we got to see the plane get de-iced.

Roger Kahn is just such a great writer. Or maybe he just brings out the best in the interviews. Like talking with the late Don Drysdale:

"...I'm not what you'd call an intellectual. I don't sit home reading Shakespeare or Keats or that Italian poet from the middle ages."
"Dante," I said. "The feller could write. Dante Alighieri."
"Yeah. I knew it wasn't Carl Furillo. So I'm not intellectual, but I can think and everything begins with that."

Megan picked us up from the airport in Seattle and helped us get all of our heavy crap home. Eli and I both did some short logging in to places on the computer and then we watched one of the Gene Kelly musicals in the boxed set, On The Town, which I really enjoyed and which Eli fell asleep during. I installed the DVD remote control player thingie onto my PS2, so now it's really like a DVD player! Whee!

I played a little bit of Puzzle Pirates; it's really frustrating that several things I ordered TEN DAYS AGO aren't ready yet. Also, I didn't get any wages for most of my labor. Bleh.

Today I am at work. There is a fish on my desk. It's a betta or whatever, in a small tank. I hear it belongs to one of Hemant's friends, and I'm supposed to keep an eye on it. It doesn't do much, it mostly sits there and occasionally it swims somewhere and I get all confused because I wonder why something is moving around on my desk.

Oh ya.
