Got this one from
sk4p.
Five Geek Social Fallacies. All of it, so true... I could totally see which qualities I have and which the others in groups like KGB/CSLounge had. Y'all should read it.
(The rest of his site is good readin' too. Like the Why Geeks Like Anime rant, which I think both Nykkel and Carl would get a kick out of. And the fact that this guy writes GURPS books and whatnot makes me think I must have stumbled on his site before, but I've forgotten it, maybe?)
Oh yeah, while I'm forwarding links *and* wearing my Nippon Ham Fighters jersey:
Fighters Logo gets an MLB facelift. Yay! A picture of Ogasawara in the new NHF uniform, and best of all... no more stupid Fighty bird?
Shinjo is a sillybillygoohead.
"Tsuyoshi Shinjo has formally signed with the Fighters and held a 30 minute press conference near the third base dugout at Sapporo Dome before 2000 fans to say so. He will wear number 1. In a typically loopy Shinjo response, he averred that he wants to live in a part of Sapporo where there are foxes and bears."
Yeah, so who's comin' to Sapporo with me next summer?

Whee. Interesting article. I will have to think about which GSFs I lean toward; first glance says 1 and 3.

Sapporo? If I could find the money, you could count me in. It could be a possibility. Are you serious? It'd be great to check out an island other than Honshu. It'd be kinda weird to go to a baseball game in Japan, since I've never been to a (MLB) game here.

On a COMPLETELY UNRELATED NOTE, let's all go to Sapporo together, because that's what friends do together! :)

And as for Shinjo, I'd be willing to bet that the minute he retires he's going to be the hottest thing on the talent circuit since Konishiki. At times I wish he'd run some of his excess personality through a hitting talent converter.

Eh, Shinjo doesn't hit all that much better or worse than the Fighters' current centerfielder Tatsuya Ide, right? I think if they move Ide to left, put Shinjo in center, and keep Tsuboi in right, they'll actually be in pretty good shape. If Ogasawara continues to be himself, and they get slightly better bats out of their mediocre-but-not-awful-infielders (Kaneko, Yukio Tanaka, Narahara, and no-longer-number-1 Akune), keep Echevarria or Cromer at DH... the pitching's not too awful and they just signed some pretty good prospects... as I see it, the biggest hole in their lineup next year is going to be a catcher. If they solve that, combined with the hoped-for attendance boost of moving to Sapporo... there might be a pretty relatively good season in store for Hillman-kantoku and the Fighters. I dunno.

2) I regret to say that I have precisely zero knowledge of the Fighters, except for Ogasawara and Hillman, and haven't followed them in any capacity since they were still wearing the garish orange-and-white uniforms. There was a guy in the late 80s - early 90s who pitched for them who was so gosh darn POP he had the power to make several thousand women fall to the ground and have multiple orgasms just by nonchalantly responding to interview questions like Kimu-Taku does today. I hated his guts for this reason.
