Today sucked
Today sucked. Yeah, it sucked in the morning, it sucked in the afternoon. It didn't really suck around dinnertime 'cause I went to Shanghai Garden with Deb and Dave and Eli, before Dave had to go back to the airport to flee Seattle, but.. then it sucked when I got home and played Puzzle Pirates for a while - I got Carl and Cat both jobbed on our ship and we didn't do ANYTHING. We couldn't find targets, we couldn't find commodities, we couldn't find SHIT. Very unsatisfying, and very unprofitable too.
It stopped sucking around when I jumped on a ship with Alie, and she said "hey, let's start training you in Sea Battle"... so she kept engaging ships and letting me do the sea battle nav. My first try I managed to get four hits on the other ship, no joke! It was beginner's luck though, because the next 3-4 times I don't think I ever got more than 2 hits, and at least one or two, no hits, and once I ran into the rocks... but I think it was good for a first try! So we won battles and it was pretty cool, and I learned about radar and the crow's nest and all this other stuff. Turns out that Spinn and Alie wanted to train me as an officer. Cool beans.
The uncool beans was that I was really pissed off that they were also going to train Kiefer as an officer even though he joined our crew a day or three ago, and I joined the crew WEEKS ago. Turns out Alie can't remember who the heck people are, and got Shakti confused with Saben... since I'd mentioned that my best friend plays the game... so she was like "I figured we'd just train you both at the same time since you're best friends," and I'm like "uhhh... no. Shakti is just someone I know in real life. You must be confusing them with someone else." Which it turned out was the case.
So now I feel better, because I was all worried they were basically doing this because they were mad at me after I was thinking of jumping crew. And that's not the case.
After that we took some funny screenshots of crew people in various outfits. Amusing if you're into PP, probly not amusing to ANYONE else on the planet. Yar.
ryani went and joined one of the dumb crews just so he can be an officer, own his own ship, and take it out whenever he feels like. Weird. I guess it's a good idea, especially since he said he'd job me any time I want.
I wore the arch support inserts in my shoes today. They felt okay! Unfortunately my right knee was acting up instead. Bleh, if it's not one thing it's another. Also, I am still slacking on planning the Halloween thing. Definitely tomorrow will send out stuff, yo.

I guess I just don't take this game as seriously as you do. That whole exchange there really didn't bother me all that much.

Hope they work out for you.
What's funny about this is one time I was in a coffee shop, and some guy walked up to me and told me he was a foot doctor and explained to me at length how I needed these things because he could tell I had a problem with my foot from the way that I walked. It was bizarre.

Well, so as far as I can tell, Sea Battle goes like:
You're on a grid. There are obstacles on the grid like wind tunnels and rocks and whatnot. You have a boat, your opponent has a boat. You have tokens - as your crew does sailing, they generate these tokens for you (there's a move forward, a move and turn left, and a move and turn right), and you can tell it which tokens you want the sailing to generate for you (so you have a little more control over which cards you have than robo rally). If the cannons are loaded, you also have "cannon" tokens which you can attach to a move. There's a timer per turn and four slots (like phases in RR); you have the choice to put a token in a slot OR leave it empty, which costs you nothing to just sit there. If you and the other ship end a phase on the same square, you have collided and melee starts. There's also rules about how long it takes before they can disengage or something based on how often they were shot, etc. You can't control which side of the boat it shoots cannonballs from, it seems to just pick whichever one is closest to the enemy ship. So navving it is like playing Robo Rally, but you have to be more careful about trying to fire shots at them, it's not free to buy and load cannonballs like it is to shoot lasers. Also, rather than having a stable target to aim for like a flag, you have a moving ship to go after.
BTW, Spinn said that he was surprised you had no crew given your skill levels, and you seemed like a decent guy, which is why he invited you. I basically agreed with him, of course :)

I'm going to see if trying the stretching exercises on that link you gave me will help on its own

I was thinking that you, me, Farren, and one other (Kiefer, maybe?) might make a good riddle-solving team for this. I want to get a team together a little early, as there's something we should do in preparation for the event... which I think will vastly improve our chance of victory. Arrrrrrr! Of course, I won't spoil our devious plans by posting 'em here!

Ordinarily I would, but the 21st is the night of the B'z concert. If it were any other day, I would be totally in for this, though, it sounds like fun. Well, except that it's being partially run by Russel, who annoys the crap out of me. But that's another story. I think Farren should be back from his trip by then (I think he gets back on Sunday or Monday, though I'm not positive), but I don't know if you'll be able to contact him before he gets back.
But yeah, I'm flattered that you asked, and REALLY curious to know what you have in mind for prepping, though I guess in theory you wouldn't want to tell me before the event... and if they get re-confused and move it to Wednesday, I'm totally in :)

Hey, it's not JUST cause they made me an officer
I don't think they're stupid, really. I felt like I made more money when I was jobbing for them than I did as a member in Bilge Rats, so maybe whoever you jobbed with just had a bad day. Overall, I find them to be incredibly skilled swordfighters, which means that they fight tougher ships than themselves and still win.
Last night I engaged an orange on my small sloop with two other people and we won a 3 people plus 1 swabbie vs. 8 brigand battle. That was fun.
Re: Hey, it's not JUST cause they made me an officer
Bilge Rats... it's odd, I was jobbing with them for a week or two because Farren's one of my close friends out here, but he's actually off on a roadtrip (To California no less. Maybe you'll accidentally meet him at SVGL - he's really good at all Bemani, and the guy he's roadtripping with is friends with I-Gene and Crystal) right now, so I haven't heard anything from the Rats for a while, I think Lizzie is busy with the island and with running stuff for the flag, and I haven't seen any of the other officers I know online.
Anyway, next time I see you on, I'll try to job with you, if you're going pillaging. Infact, I'll probly be on tonight while I'm doing laundry, after 9pm pacific time or so. Send me a /tell when you're on (and unless I'm swordfighting, I'll reply)!
