Japan Day 2 - Meiji Jingu, Harajuku, Shibuya, Kanamecho

important thing first:
I have a copy of IIDX 3rd style. I got it for $27. Anyone want to buy it from me when I get back?
I have seen two copies of 4th style, they were both around $45-50. I wasn't sure anyone would want them at that price.
Can the bemani people please relay this to IRC and let me know, post a comment here? thanks.
I also saw copies of DDR 1st mix for 9.50, club append for that much too, REALLY cheap beatmania 5-key... oh and if anyone wants a copy of the PNM Sana album for around $10 let me know.

okay

so today, we tried to do touristy things, we really did. we went to the meiji temple in the morning after stopping by the post office to get cash and by mcdonalds for breakfast. i got wedding charms for heidi and cory at the temple shrine! However, the temple itself isn:t much - you kinda go in and see it and maybe bow and pray a little and thats all there is unless you want to pay to go into yoyogi koen, so we decided not to. I got some stuff in the souvenir store of course. After that we walked into harajuku and went through a few shops until we found

BOOKOFF!!!!

Now DJ knows what i mean when i say bookoff is the best thing in japan. We spent like 2 hours in the nice airconditioned bookoff and i found a whole lot of CDs and stuff. woo! it was awesome. I got a bookoff member card so i can be cool like oren. Yeah, so after that it was lunchtime. We wandered around Harajuku some more... I got Laura a late birthday present. I wont say what, just that she'll love it and I got it in a store that many schoolgirls seemed to frequent :) I forget what else we did there but it wasnt much. Caught the Yamanote to Shibuya after that to hang out in supertrendy land. We went by the statue of Hachiko and i took a picture of course. Then I wanted to go to Tower Records, although we wandered through a billion other stores on the way there. like a sanrio store or two, and another game store, and.. Yeah. Oh, we had lunch at a random noodle place. I had ramen. Whee! Tower Records Shibuya is like 9 floors high. We found a huge cache of Bemani game soundtracks, and a ton of cool jpop and I found the Vincent De Moor CD i want and the CD Eli asked me for.

After Tower we basically walked around shibuya some more. Found a Mandarake - it had these AMAZING cosplay costumes just hanging up all over but you're not allowed to take pictures so i couldnt. DJ got some plushies, and then we wandered around some more. We found a totally random arcade and it had PNM10 and PNM Animelo! I played the weirdest songs in Animelo like the Sailor Stars theme and whatnot. wowie. They also had a UFO catcher thing FULL OF DUCKS but i couldn't win one!

god, i hate japanese keyboards

anyway, so by that point we were really weighted down by lots of CDs and other stuff, so we decided ot head back to ikebukuro for a bit. No sooner did we get back there and into our rooms than it started pouring rain and thundering and lightning. wow. So we hung out for like half an hour... I called James and talked to him for a bit (but it cut me off because i was out of money - James, can you email me your cell number? hopefully i can call you back tomorrow) about friday, and i tried to call Dave but failed. And then the rain let up so we went back out.

We had two goals for the evening
1) eat tempura or curry
2) find the ikebukuro bookoff which is really in another place.

so we took the yurakucho line one stop to the stop i am forgetting the name of and found the bookoff but first went to get food. we went into a totally random little eatery place and i thoroughly confused the motherly like lady who was running the place because i wanted tempura but not tempurasoba or tendon or... so eventually we both ended up getting tenzaru. it was GREAT though. after that it was raining like crazy. so we went to bookoff.

WOW. I got really depressed because they had some CDs for really cheap that i got at Tower earlier (notably the Sana one). Then they had a TON OF GAMES and i couldnt decide whether to get a lot because i didnt know if anyone wanted them or not. Then... blah. Well, so i got a whole bunch more CDs and games and things, including DDR tokimeki. heh. We went to another game store and I found the 3rd style, and another 4th and 6th style but they were really expensive.

then we headed back to ikebukuro and the arcade and i am here now. yay! soon we'll go back to the kimi and go to sleep.

have i mentioned how much people smoke here? ugh. that is the only thing that sucks about japan. other than that it's great to be here.

I'd loooooove if you could find DDR feat. Dreams Come True. It's the only mix I'm missing. Oh, I also need a JPS2 power cord. I'm more than happy to pay you extra for stuff.

I'm glad you're having a good time in Japan. *hugs* Hopefully, I'll get there someday...

Wow

I will take the third style, and if they aren't TOO expensive, a fourth and a fifth too :P

If willing to ship to me (or hold on until you come back to Austin again), I'd LOVE if you could find I.Q. Remix (Intelligent Qube) for under $30 for PS2 since it's the sequel to my all-time favorite puzzle game. I can paypal or send an MO when you get back. Also, any cheap j-pop CDs by Move ($3-5) since I just saw them in person last weekend.

er, the power cord is just an old-style cord--you can get one in radio shack.

Really? Oh cool. All the other PS cords I have have a square on one side.

No requests, just "Whee!" and "Cool!". :-)

Yeah, none of those cords are specific to the playstation at all. It's just new style vs old style.

Oooo thank you.

you sound like you are having such an awesome time-- i am so very jealous but at the same time i'm quite happy for you :) have a blast!!

Used game stores ++

Used game places are fantastic, especially for systems like Game Boy that are free of stupid region lockouts.

My favorite find last year: DDR 2nd Mix Club Append 1 (??) for ¥80, or about 60¢.

Aside: She's playing down the significance of the thunderstorm she described: 29 mm of rain fell in the first 10 minutes, which is... well, it's a hell of a lot of rain to fall in 10 minutes. Lightning struck power lines on the Yamanote trains causing them to shut down in both directions for two hours. Lightining also struck and killed a pedestrian on the outskirts of Tokyo proper, and it also struck the government Diet building (the equivalent of the US Capitol), causing four large chunks of the granite facade to break off and shatter three plate-glass windows below.

I sure am glad she was apparently out of the line of fire.

Oh yes

One more comment. PnM Animelo- is that out for ps/ps2 yet? I wanted it the minute I heard about the concept of anime songs in pnm...but now that I know the sailorstars theme is on it I may very well be willing to kill for it :P

I'm not that interested in IIDX 3rd or 4th, buuuuut, if you find any of those Beatmania keychain LCD games I'll totally buy one off you :D :D :D
