last day in austin

A large portion of the gang went to TXLC for lunch today. like the sneaky person i am, i conveniently forgot to ask brad or pace or proz or anyone to buy me lunch there. i had yummy food nonetheless. we were joined by Cathy and Jike Chong, who both went to CMU in the 2000-2001 or so graduating classes, and they just got back from visiting Seattle, oddly enough! so I ended up sitting across from them and despite that I don't know either of them that well, it was a fun conversation. They just got married here and are getting married in China sometime in the upcoming months. Anyway, many of us ate a lot of food for lunch, then reconvened at A+R's place to split again - some people were going boating and the rest of us were not.

Brad ([personal profile] bk1e that is) and Carl and I went over to Neko Neko Anime, a new store that opened up in Austin. They have free DDR Extreme! It's a lot better than the other EX machines in town although the 2P up arrow also has a weak sensor :( But it was a lot easier to get some decent scores on it than the Einstein's machine. And Brad2 ([profile] atomx) met us at NNA and also played DDR and hung out and we watched some anime and drank bubble tea and put on This is Otakudom again but only watched like 10 mins before a little kid was in the shop and they were like "uhh... we gotta censor this. sorry!" I made Carl play some DDR with me, and Proz showed up and also I played DDR with him, and I played a set with both Brads at one point or another I think? And with this guy Kain who works there... he was a nice guy but he was all about picking songs like Sakura and Max 300 :O I passed Sakura Heavy with him on my first try ever, though, so okay, I can pass a 10-footer. And I also passed BIMP Double Heavy on my first try ever (yes, despite how much I talk about it I'd never actually PLAYED it - much easier to do when it's free!). And other stuff. Was fun but the store was way too hot, I don't think they had good enough AC there. But hey, free DDR. And I got to talk to Carl some. Yay for Carl.

We went back to Brad1's place afterwards, where I annhilated Proz at Super Puzzle Fighter, and I talked to Carl, and then Brad2 showed up and we watched some Azumanga Daioh for like an hour. I had never seen any of it before. That series is SUPER CUTE, I think it made my head explode. I mean, Brad2 is super cute too, but I doubt my head would ever explode from talking to him :)

Brad2 took off after that and the rest of us ended up back at A+R's place afterwards, I played some monkey ball and forced Carl to play Lost Cities with me and then we went to Zach's, some of us stopping at Moe's on the way to get dinner food, others eating leftover grill. People watched movies (Lola Run and Army of Darkness) but I didn't really pay attention to either. We got a game of Citadels going (Sadly Kevin and I never did get a game of Iron Dragon going, but I think we are both big fans of Citadels now!) which Roman won despite never playing it before, and then Bohnanza which was close, and then it was time for everyone to leave. I tried to talk to people a little more tonight but everyone was kinda lethargic. We came back here and Brad1 and I played IIDX together for a while... first we took turns doing Light-14 songs (I passed a whole bunch of easy ones!!!!) and then we did Light-14 with each of us playing total one-handed including scratch with our nondominant hand (so I'd take right, he'd take left). Then we played battle one-handed and we did some songs two-handed as well. We were close on a lot of scores though he usually beat me, it's SO awesome to play with Brad because he's just such a great guy and he's reasonably close to my skill level.

Going back to Seattle tomorrow night, flight leaves here like 7:30pm, we get in like midnight. Josh and/or Megan are picking us up from the airport. Yay! I really want to stay here with my CMU friends for a long long time but not only would the heat kill me, but everyone else leaves tomorrow too anyway. I felt kinda bad tonight because I really sort of didn't want Proz around at our table (sorry!) because other than that it was like we had our old gang from "sophomore year" for the most part sitting there... Kevin, Roman, Oren, Carl, Brad, and me... we were just missing Andrew and Li. It's kinda cool how 5-6 years later they're just a group I feel totally comfortable with. (I say "sophomore year" because it was my senior year and their sophomore year but Andrew made me an honorary sophomore. And now we're all virtually the same age anyway, so it doesn't really matter, except for when I want to go first at various board games.) I just don't really have any friends like that in Seattle except maybe Megan and Josh... I never realized how lucky I was to have this group, and that they put up with me for so long. And I still want a new Carl :(

Bleh, I guess I never adjusted to Texas time zone. Oh well.
Hopefully I'll get to see Ben again tomorrow before I leave.
I still have Beautiful Days running through my head (thanks, Brad).
Still not king.

I know I was kinda the odd man out of the entire crowd over the weekend since I was the only non-ex-CMU person of the entire group. I dunno, I was around a lot more than I should have been because I was making up for last year when I disappeared after a quick appearance. Now since that has been evened out.. -_-

Ah well, I shouldn't feel guilty for overexposure.. it was still a lot of fun being allowed to be with all of you. You're all very generous, gracious and it was great to know the CMU group a bit more. Now where's my fanboy t-shirt ~_^
