look, a cow (austin day 4)
i'm like really depressed and really happy all at once, and it's kinda making my head explode.
to start off, let me just say that i'm really happy to see nick again. i had forgotten how much i like him somewhere along the way. for the record, there's never been anything between us, we're just good friends, but i really ♥ him so very much. there's nothing like being in a big hug with someone you never get to see :(
i would also be so happy to see carl again (well, i am still happy to see him, but) if i got to spend more time with him this trip. it doesn't look like i'm going to really get to sit down and talk to him alone at all, which sucks. i kinda blame the austin weather for being too hot to just suggest "hey, let's go for a walk" or something. many times this week he's said or done things that remind me why i still think he's so awesome, but i still feel kinda disconnected. sucks.
it's really hard to spend quality time with individual people when you have such a huge group gathering. i mean, i am kinda happy to get to see everyone, too, which i wouldn't if everyone hadn't come down (incase I haven't listed this yet, our core reunion group was basically me, Eli, Brad, Carl, Oren, Nick, Adam, Rehana, Zach, Tom, Roman, Allwein, Vince, Becca, and Kevin. Then there were many other people I wanted to visit here. So it's been a good weekend for seeing people but the timeslices have been so small.
i kinda wish i could spend more time here, but i will be happy to get back to seattle weather, that's for sure. it's so great to have so many people around that i've known for so long, and so many people i can just go up to and hug. i feel like a major hugslut this week but it's just, i MISS everyone so badly. i need to cram a year's worth of hugs into a weekend or something.
anyway, today I got lunch with Brad and Pace and Pace's friend Sabrina, and then Brad went off racing and Pace and I went DDRing. We dropped Sabrina off at the Institution on the way, and ended up dragging Proz along with us to the Drag (ha ha). Pace and I played like one game of DDR at Le Fun and it was godawful. Somehow I AA'ed White Lovers as my first song; 19 greats and 2 misses not my fault, but then the rest of the songs I did I just got RIDICULOUS amounts of misses not my fault. So we went to Einstein's. I left my memcard at Le Fun but Proz got it for me :) We hung out at Einstein's for a few hours playing DDR, but for the most part I had a terrible time of it, and the sensors were kinda sticky there too. Pace AA'ed Sakura and some other stuff, and she tried to AAA LTBHE but got like 5 or 6 on it. Proz got me to play HVAM and I think it'll be quite a while before I can pass it, I just don't have the stamina. Oh ya, and Nick joined us because he was doing work at the university so he came by and also played some DDR. I made him do tough songs :) At one point while I was playing Kakumei and using the bar, I heard someone in the background say something like "blah blah look at the bar blah blah Seattle chick blah blah" but by the time i was done i couldn't tell who the heck had said it. In honor of Einstein's being the first place I ever played Spin the Disc thanks to Brad, I played it as my last song and AA'ed it. Yay.
Grar, so after that we went to Jamba Juice and headed back up north, with a stop off at Nick's house so I could rinse off and change clothes, and so Nick could change shirts, etc. Then we came up to Adam and Rehana's, where people split into vegetarians and non-vegetarians. We had 9 of us going to the Salt Lick for BBQ... so we drove there in two cars, but when we got there they said there was a 1.5 hour wait. (!?!?!) So we decided to go to the County Line instead where there was a 20 minute wait, which turned out to be a 30-minute wait, but it was out on a patio and it was really nice, and we got drinks and stuff. Then we ate BBQ food, Eli and I split a bunch of stuff and it was all quite fabulous. I had a REALLY strong mudslide and I was vaguely buzzed but then all of the meat absorbed it. There was this mounted cow's head above our table and it was a nice work of taxidermy AND it had a pullstring and a speaker in it, so I had been staring at it like "LOOK A COW" and then it started talking! Like it said "MOOOOOOOO" and then a bunch of other things like "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" :) It turned out there was a guy operating it to freak us out, it was pretty funny. We saw fireworks after dinner, they were pretty.
Came back to Zach's house, where then people split up again... we went to Sixth Street, which is basically Austin's drinking/club district, with 10 people: Tom, Chris, Me, Nick, Eli, Proz, Brad, Kevin, Vince, Becca. 10 people is a large group to try to navigate around. We walked several blocks and couldn't agree on anyhwere to go and eventually I think Kevin and Proz decided we were going to Maggie Mae's. So we did. We hung out on the roof and all had various mixed drinks... mine weren't very good AND my nose was running horribly from all the cigarette smoke, so I actually gave up on both my margarita AND my long island iced tea and gave them both to Proz. We all sat at a table and sometimes got up to watch people on the street and whatnot. Eventually we went to a Dueling Pianos bar or something and listened to music for an hour and some people drank shots and we hung out. It was pretty funny I guess. I was pretty sober by the end of it so rather than cabbing home we just swapped drivers; I drove Tom's rental car back to A+R's place and Brad drove back too as he was designated driver, and then we swapped people again, and eventually all ended up back at our respective places. And now it's almost 4am. Fuck.
