Friday Fiver
1. What is your most prized material possession?
I don't know a good way to answer this. If you mean "most irreplaceable", the first thing that pops to mind is my copy of Kernighan&Ritchie's _The C Programming Language_, the original edition... which was a present at the end of PGSS '93 from Kirk (computer science lab&project instructor). So it's got a long message in the beginning from him about how he enjoyed working with me in the CS classes, and how he hoped I'd continue learning C and study CS in college. Then on the next page, it is signed by Brian Kernighan himself, from when he lectured at CMU my freshman year. (Heh, I remember
namshubwriter bringing his teddy bear (named Kernighan) to that lecture.)
2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?
My Winnie-the-Pooh blanket, I've had it since I was born. It's ratty and ripped, but oh well.
3. Are you a packrat?
Oh god yes. I really try hard to work on it, but anyone who's seen my room knows that I just suck at the throwing-useless-stuff-out game.
4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?
I prefer a happy medium. If our house was totally clean I would hate living in it because it'd be impossible not to think "OMG if I leave this cup here it'll spoil our perfect house!" But if it was messy like my house senior year at CMU was, I could never invite anyone over, and that'd suck. Actually, what I prefer is having a mostly-clean common living area, and then my own room to totally clutter up.
5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there?
Only one room in my house has a real theme and I'm sure you all know what it is. Quack. I guess we have a general theme of "too many books", though.
