last year's resolutions
Well, it's the end of the year. Let's go back to Last Year's Resolutions and see how well I did at them...
1) lose weight (ha ha ha ha! ok, so this would be easy if i ever stuck to things, like a DDR dieting routine, or got back into volleyball, or something.. we'll see what happens. I guess the problem is that I keep convincing myself I'm not really overweight enough to truly worry about it, but that's not really true.)
Nope - I think I weigh the exact same amount now that I did at this time last year. Oh well.
2) get all of this health stuff checked out (ie, find out whether I have PCOS, and figure out what the fuck is up with the stomach pains. Maybe even get more used to having blood drawn (again, ha ha ha ha!))
Nope - I vaguely got stuff checked out I guess. The health issues going on at that time actually just went away after a while (the heartburn thingy). No luck on the having blood drawn front though, I still hate that.
3) teach Eli to dance (i gave him an ultimatum; if he wants to marry me, we have to waltz at the wedding. Of course, he also told me that if he learns to dance, I have to learn to drive. Hmm...)
Nope. Heh, I even posted this way before we were actually engaged. But, no, the poor boy still doesn't know how to dance.
3a) learn to drive :)
Yep! Did that from February to May of 2002, got my license May 31st.
4) GET THE FUCK OUT OF PITTSBURGH! (sigh.)
Yep! Didn't expect it to happen, but moved to Seattle on July 30th.
5) finish more Java games, publish the code and stuff.
Yes/No. I forget what I had done at that point. I did SOME work on my falling pieces game code during 2002, but I forget what I accomplished when, to be honest.
6) get more focused professionally. need better work ethics.
Yes? No? I'm not sure about this. I got laid off Feb 1 2002, and didn't start work again until Aug 5, and I'm not sure how I'm doing on work ethics here although so far people seem to be okay with me.
7) write some more creative stuff besides LJ.
Yes... kind of. I wrote like six filks. Nothing else really, though.
8) play a drow elf or an assassin in a D&D game.
Yes. I played a Neutral Evil ninja in Django's game. I guess that's close enough.
9) invite over everybody at some point or another to our apartment for dinner. A corollary is that I should learn to make sushi.
Yes. As some people know, we had people over often for dinner in 2002, both in Pittsburgh and Seattle, and we had a few sushi parties, too.
10) go back to Japan again this summer; see a rock concert, play lots of arcade games, maybe do some hiking, and see more of Tokyo and Kyoto that we missed last time (and get the lodging arrangements right this time...)
No. *SOB UNCONTROLLABLY*
11) try to get a better ratio of books-i-have-read to books-on-my-bookshelves
Yes and no. I read a lot more this year than last year, but I bought a lot more books, too.
12) figure out how to better moderate my video gaming time so I don't drive Eli nuts
No. Sorry, honey.
13) win a DDR tourney (yeah right)
Yes. July 13, 2002, Deanna places first in Trick. I guess that counts :)
(Dunno if 3rd in Trick in January, and 3rd in Freestyle in June count either.)
14) spend more time with people who I will miss when they leave Pittsburgh this year (or when I leave this year?)
Yes, I think I did that pretty well during that whole time I was unemployed. See the Cedar Point story if you think otherwise. :)
15) finish scanning in all of the pictures i should scan in (and distribute pictures to people who I should distribute pictures to)
Not really. Oh well. *hugs the digital camera*
16) travel travel travel! I want to go to at least one new state or country that I've never been to. I guess I could put Seattle on my list again.
Yes. That's irony, isn't it? I hadn't even BEEN to Seattle a year ago and now I live here.
17) work on my music skills more (either really get back into guitar, or maybe go buy a flute or something... oh shit, I have to clean out my euphonium before Kiltie Band restarts)
Yes. I think. I bought a flute. I also took up the baritone bugle in the last few weeks, and I did really try to get better at euphonium for Kiltie and all.
18) learn or relearn myself up to 600 kanji. retake the Japanese Language Proficiency Test if it turns out I didn't pass it this time. (sigh... won't have the results back until February)
Yes, no, maybe so. I passed the JLPT and got lazy. I did go with Carl for talking to Sobajima-san for a while but eventually stopped going. I've sort of semi-kept up my Japanese skills, but not nearly enough.
18a) visit sensei-types (hi Carl... y'think?)
Yeah. Well, we did that after passing the JLPT, even if I sounded like an idiot.
19) get my "i shouldn't have said that" response down to -1 second, so i continue to stifle myself from saying things i shouldn't say.
Nope. Oh well.
