I've got a duck that quacks

I had a lot of desire to post to LJ today during work but decided not to. Now I forget all the stuff I was thinking.

I've been really tired today, but that didn't stop me from getting dragged into the general social hubbub that accompanies the visit of the Jensen clan to town. So I had lunch at Shanghai garden with [profile] ezzie00, [profile] meerkat299, [personal profile] blk, [personal profile] katybeth, [profile] alegria_a, [personal profile] pauldf, and Seth-who-doesn't-have-an-LJ-to-the-best-of-my-knowledge.

You know what? When I start to type "lj user" a lot I want to abbreviate it to "luser".

Anyway, I was really tired at lunch. I remember making a lot of bad jokes, and talking to Seth because he was sitting next to me and I don't really know him very well, and I had orange beef and it was yummy, and poor Jarrett ordered sesame chicken but couldn't eat it because it has peppers and he's allergic, so I "helped" him by eating some of his lunch. I dunno, the more tired I am and the more people I'm around, the more flaky I get. I kind of enjoy it though. There was discussion of going to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner, but I'll get to that later. Hey, Ezzie is going to be as old as me in a week. Ha! Poor Ezzie.

After lunch I went back to work. Shawn left early and so did Mike, and since I'm kind of mostly waiting on comments on stuff and vaguely revising things of my own volition, I decided to leave early too.

Oh, as an aside, this morning I decided, since I had no warm jacket and it was FREEZING out, to try getting off at Westlake and buswaying to Amazon rather than walking the 3 blocks from my normal stop. Here's what's odd - usually taking the 9:20 bus would get me in my office at 9:55 or so with a stop at the Amazon cafeteria for some orange juice and a bagel. Well. Getting off the bus at Westlake, going to McDonald's and getting something random and bad for me for breakfast (with orange juice so it was okay), and then getting on the busway and going to Amazon... got me in my office at 9:55. Weird, isn't it? Stupid downtown traffic...

Anyway, after work I came home and played some IIDX (dear lord, I'm addicted). I passed Something Wonderful and Gradiusic Cyber, so now on 5th Style light 7 there's only 3 songs left on the "first stage" that I have not passed. I think. Love is Dreaminess, Entrance, and something else. Shining Polaris? I forget. Anyway. Passed V again, so now I believe I can pass it. Realized it was 7pm or so and went "shit!" and got Eli and got in the car and drove to Bellevue.

Getting to Bellevue Square is no problem for me. Figuring out WHERE THE FUCK I AM IN BELLEVUE SQUARE is another story. We reached Bellevue Square around 7:15 but weren't done parking or walking to the Cheesecake Factory until around 7:35-7:40ish. That's ok, as there was quite a wait for a table. So I said "yay, can I go back to the WOTC store?" and Josh and [profile] mj2q and Seth came with me too, and we trekked up there. It was really fun to look around at games, banter with the WOTC employees, talk trash about Cheapass Games, etc. And, why the heck is there an Everquest Roleplaying game? It's like, a roleplaying game based on a computer game based on a roleplaying game? How much more meta can you get? It's like Civilization the boardgame being based on the computer game based on the board game... whee. Anyway. I bought a duck, the kind that quacks. Seriously. It's a little rubber duckie keychain, and when you squeeze it, it lights up all red and goes "QUACK *QUACK* QUACKQUACKQUACKQUACK" three times. It is the cutest thing in the entire galaxy. If you squeeze its head hard enough, its eyes bulge out at you. It rules.

Josh bought LOTR Risk, and hopefully I'll get to play that sometime. Seth bought one of the Dr. Lucky games, but I forget which. Mark didn't buy anything. Wow. I didn't know it was possible to go into a game store and not buy something.

Anyway, we went back to the Cheesecake Factory after that, where we waited around a bit more, and finally got seated at a long long table. Lessee, from my left there was [profile] mh75, [profile] ezzie00, [profile] alegria_a, [profile] meerkat299, [personal profile] pauldf, Seth, [personal profile] katybeth, [personal profile] blk, [profile] mj2q, [personal profile] eub, and Josh. With the way things were, I mostly talked to Eli and Megan and Josh and Mark, which suited me just fine. Megan and I were doing this goofy joke where she would poke me and say "yow" and I would reply something like "There are SQUIRRELS in my PANTS!!!" or "The ROBOT is chasing the FISH through the FOREST!" or "I think BUTTERFLIES should be ROLLING around in PAISLEY GRASS!" or "There's a TARTAN PLATYPUS in my SUITCASE!" I totally lost it at some point and couldn't stop laughing, because it was so totally goofy. At least people didn't try otherwise to use me as a UNIX prompt. I think Megan wanted to use me as "calc", but unfortunately, the only program I had compiled was yow. "When I get recompiled, I'm gonna have fortune, too!"

I had some mediocre meatloaf and some excellent tiramisu cheesecake; shame I was too stuffed to properly appreciate the cheesecake. Oh well. I still had fun tonight/today/etc, even if I was really withdrawing further and further to avoid inadvertantly saying some things I was worried might slip out. I may be blunt, but I try not to be when it's not the right time for it.

As an aside, speaking of being blunt, I'm kind of sad because I think I inadvertantly alienated someone that I really liked talking to, and now I'm afraid to say anything like "what's up? Are you mad at me?" because if I'm just being paranoid and they just haven't felt like talking, I'm going to look stupid... but if they *are* mad at me, I'm not sure what I can do anyway. But I hate being the one who always initiates conversations, in *any* friendship. So I'm not sure what to do in this situation. I'm thinking I'll wait a few days more and see... after all, several video games DID just come out, there's always a chance of conversation being preempted by Metroid Prime or something. :) God knows I've been spending enough time on IIDX this past month... I almost passed Sync Light 7 tonight. I finished it with 76% twice. *sigh*

Yeah, so on other sad things, one of the DDR people I just started recently hanging out with and talking to a lot, Robby/zmode, just mentioned he's probably moving away back to Utah for several months, and I'm kind of bummed about that. It's not like I even knew him that well, but he's a really nice guy and I was totally hoping to get to hang out with him more. Bleh. While the Bemani scene here is quite good, I still wonder if I've missed its heyday... seems like there are a lot of people who don't come out and play anymore.

Oh well. This week will be wacky. Tuesday bowling, Wednesday DDR, Thu/Fri Thanksgiving, Sat. DDR Tournament at Paradise (in Tacoma), Sunday who knows, next Monday is Narrows Free Bemani night, assuming I get a ride or drive there.
