The Pirates Pitcher Pitched a Pack of Crappy Curveballs
Today I sewed in the afternoon and called people and stuff. Very slow afternoon, to be honest... most of it was spent deliberating over whether a) the rain was going to stop and we should do baseball over bridge and b) i was going to successfully use felt as interfacing for the collar for the thingy I was sewing. The answers? a) yes and b) yes.

nickjong picked me up and we watched the rain fall... and decided to try to go to the game anyway. So we did. We got there around 6:45, due to the lousy traffic, and then had to park, and get tickets, and... and stop by Outback, since this time WE HAD TICKETS AND WANTED TO SIT ON THE FIELD SIDE, DAMMIT! and so on. The wait at Outback was like 50-60 minutes though. Ew. So we went to find our seats, which were relatively good - we were behind home plate, almost at the top of the stadium. In Pi section (314) no less.
The game was delayed starting a little, and at 8pm when we went back to Outback, it was the middle of the second inning. Unfortunately they seated us in that same damn not-on-the-side-of-the-stadium side of the restaurant. We really should have just told them to fuck off and gotten hot dogs or something... but we didn't. So we watched four innings of the game on the TV in Outback. When we got to dinner the score was 1-0 Cincinnati, but when we left dinner the score was 2-1 Pittsburgh, at the top of the sixth inning or something. Eh, you can read about the game here. All I have to say is: Boehringer sucks. Yeah.
See, here's my version of what happened: We got to the 8th inning and they put in Boehringer (this is after taking out Sauerbeck, who they had put in with a double switch when they took out Adam Hyzdu, who was responsible for 2/3 of the hits the Pirates had so far at that point). We were already like "WTF?" about the switch, but... so Boehringer walked a guy. The 1B came over to go "You suck." and went back. Then he walked ANOTHER guy. The 3B came over to go "You suck." Then he struck out Kearns, so we were like "Okay, maybe you don't suck." Then the next guy got a nice hit that drove in a run, so the game was tied (and there were guys on 2B and 3B). Someone else came out to the mound to go "Dude, you really suck, what is your PROBLEM?" but didn't take him out. Then he struck out Barry Larkin, amazingly enough, so things were ok. Then he intentionally walked the next guy, so bases were loaded. Then I said to Nick, "I can't believe he did that. Whoever is up next is going to hit a grand slam." And Nick said "shut up!" and I said "No, seriously, he's going to hit a fucking grand slam and this Boehringer idiot is going to lose the game for us." And what happened? Larue came up and HIT A GRAND SLAM. I so totally called that. So then it was like 6-2 Cincinnati. You should have seen the people flocking out of the stands amidst the boos and crap. But, we decided to stay, because heck, it was the middle of the 8th inning, right? They put in another pitcher, who got the next guy out. Sigh. Just one or two batters too late for the switch, don't you think?
Anyway, the Pirates actually managed to get 3 runs in their part of the 8th inning, bringing the game to 6-5, which was kind of exciting. Then one of the Reds outfielders did the most awesome dive catch I've ever seen, which prevented the Pirates from getting the lead. I mean, goddamn, that was a really really nice play. The Reds scored another run in the ninth (but I swear, if you saw the play and SAW the replay, it honestly looked like the guy who scored was not only tagged out by the catcher but ALSO missed the plate. However, the ump called him safe, much to the booing chagrin of most of PNC Park), and the Pirates almost but not quite got up to catching up in the 9th. Oh well.
Afterwards I went and bought a Pirates shirt, which I hope I wear when I live in Seattle.
Then we drove home. Well, we drove to Beeler, where I talked to Christina and Christine a bit and played some Super Set, and I also saw Brian R, who is in town for the weekend or something. It's always exciting to see friends of mine to whom I can still go "lookie! I'm engaged and I'm moving to Seattle to work at Amazon in a week or two!" and they don't know about it. Whee. Then Nick and I looked at stuff on the MLB site... despite how I have not been as much into baseball as I was until I was 13 or 14, I still remember a hell of a lot of stuff about it. It was fun to talk about stuff. Yeah. Eventually I made Nick drive me home and that's where I am now.
I had this idea halfway through the game that I should call Megan and find out if she wanted any Pirates merchandise while I was there, but I figured that I would probly screw it up anyway (I know she wants this particular Pirates hat, but I don't know how I'd find it. Sigh.) As it is, I can't wait to go to a game at Safeco park and see Ichiro in action... :)

Or that's what I would say if it was the Mets.
