back again
Well, we're back in Pittsburgh, no thanks to United. We left Ben and Tara's house at 11am today and got back to our apartment around 9:30pm, which is about as long as it would have taken to drive the entire way. (Though since Eli hates driving for long periods and I still don't know how to drive, it's probably better that we didn't)
We got to Logan airport around 12:30pm, and found out the flight that was the first leg of our trip was cancelled. Fortunately, they have like five flights, one every hour, between Logan and Dulles, and we were waaay early, so they just put us on the 2:45pm flight instead of the 3:45pm flight. Unfortunately, the 5:20 Dulles->Pittsburgh flight was apparently full, so they said we'd still be on the 6:20 and have a longer wait in DC instead of in Boston. No big deal, right?
Ok, so we grab lunch and go on the first flight, get to DC, no big deal, around 4:40 or so, I suppose. Since our next flight wasn't until 6:20, I made Eli walk to another terminal with me so we could get yummy Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Yay ice cream! It was really good, and I was all happy and stuff. Then we settled down to read and all for an hour or two waiting for the flights. We'd even thought of things like "hey, we'll be back at the airport around 7pm, we could go to Ikea and get more shelves and another comfy chair, right?" Then they announced all of these fuckups with the 6:20 flight, like first the crew had to sign in, then it turned out the crew wasn't actually there or something, and so on and so forth. There were a bunch of other Pittsburgh people there raising a fuss; apparently they had been routed all over the country trying to get back to Pittsburgh on United and they weren't very happy about it. We weren't entirely happy but mostly just sat there and read books and all. I finished _A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court_ just before the plane touched down in Pittsburgh (Good book, I liked reading the first 240 pages, but the ending was such a let-down that I sort of wish I hadn't finished it). The plane finally left around 7:40 or so, maybe a little later, I forget. We got out of the Pittsburgh airport around 8:50, which was way too late to go to Ikea or anything else.
So there is airport whining for you.
Now I'm sitting at home coding in Java and Eli is writing up stuff to put in his Livejournal, and I'm trying to catch up on posts and thingies from the weekend. I'm also realizing that this week will be way too short, but next week will be way too long. So if people have time next week, on weeknights, to go shopping for Halloween shit, that would be cool. does Monroeville have a halloween store? the one in Beaver was cool, but lacked things I wanted. I'm probly just going to be Emi for halloween, since at least I have the costume and it doesn't require much effort and it's my computer's name after all...
And dammit, if anyone who knows Sean is reading this and knows anything about his visit this week, please email me or something.
