I think we were going on "floor theme" being the color of the door frames, which is much more visible when you exit the staircase, not the room number plaques. Like I said, we managed to correct ourselves 10-15 minutes later on the basis of simple mathematics. We weren't the only team scouring the 7th floor at the time we were there, either.

We corrected our location for Clue 8 but things didn't fit due to the 95% anyway, and yeah, I think it was the same as you with our center of gravity being over point 6, which you can maybe see on my drawing as I recreated the dots outside of the building map to have better access for tangram-matching.
