Argh - sorry about that misclick. We (Central Services) went on the same 13-040 runaround red herring, except not for long because our MIT folks kept telling us that room didn't exist.
I was actually *really* impressed by the colour match between the rope strand and the room-number plaques on floor 6, so I guess I disagree with your gripe on that; but we checked both floors 6 and 7 anyway.
It turned out that the exact vertex for clue 8 was a little tricky to determine, and if you were at one of the two plausible options then a triangle fit (with center of gravity over a previously-used vertex, so this may have been the same misdirection you followed?). I'm with you that runarounds are the thing I like best really (and just as well because this year I felt as though after about noon Sat I contributed very little in the way of actual puzzle solving!).
