Happy new year! 明けましておめでとうございます!
Today in the afternoon we had lunch at Ivar's. I had a breadbowl of clam chowder, so yummy but so bad for me :) We walked to Safeway and got some stuff for baking cookies, and then Carl baked chocolate chocolate chip cookies which were fantastic! Of course, I kinda ducked out on him to go upstairs and hang out with Adam and Rehana for a while and talk about board games and stuff. Eventually Carl came to fetch me and we went out to Christine's house for her New Year's boardgames party.
When we showed up we made 7 (Christine, Jon, Lee, Carl, Dylan, Joey, and me), so the first thing that happened was Seven Wonders. I was Alexandria B, with Christine to my left as Babylon and Joey to my right as Rome B. I had a leader that gave me extra science points, and my favorite Vitruvius, so despite Christine ALSO playing science next to me, we both stomped everyone else with me winning with a score of 83 -- I'm not sure I've ever gotten that high before.
Kon and Dave showed up near the end of the game and Levi and Scott showed up right after, so, we split up into two groups for a while. I wanted to play Torres since it looked interesting (it was Game of the Year in 2000) and so Levi and Scott and Joey joined me in the living room for it; everyone else played Betrayal At The House on the Hill or whatever. Torres is not a complex game; you build castles and you do a lot of math (your score depends on multiplying the size of your castles by how high up your knights are) but yet we had a lot of fun playing it and trying to figure out what to do. I kinda really liked it and wish I had a copy to play again. We'll see.
After that, some people left, and then some people started playing Galaxy Trucker while the rest of us floundered. (There was a plan to watch the movie 2012, which I have never seen, but we couldn't get it on Netflix apparently.) Kon and Carl and I played Mhing for a while.
At 11:50pm or so we hunted on Youtube for something to watch at midnight. My original suggestion was "Let's find Times Square footage from some long ago year and celebrate Happy New Year 1962!" but instead what happened is, we watched the Sydney fireworks footage for a bit, and then this hilarious video montage of Times Square countdowns from 1975 to 2011. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDFgto7YUTM) So, yeah.
I guess we stayed until almost 2am mostly hanging out watching other videos and talking. Now I'm back here at Carl's.
Mike got sick earlier this week so instead of getting me from Christine's, he went home to rest and I'll see him tomorrow.
I got NYE-retweeted by the Fighters pitcher Enoshita and a bunch of random people followed me. Pretty wacky. It is kinda cool how that can work though.
Happy New Year y'all! I'll do a resolutions/etc/whatever post shortly I suppose.
