Sunday
Now it's Tuesday and I'm back-updating. Of course.
Sunday I came up with the brilliant idea to watch 2.5 games of ball at Jingu instead of 3 full ones. That turned out to be a truly brilliant idea, although I got there JUST AS THE GAME WAS STARTING. Sat right behind the Hosei dugout anyway and took tons of photos. Sadly, the freshman starter Ishida is a lefty, so I was on the wrong side, but other than that it was fine. Mizushima had left me an ouendan ticket and I didn't get it, I still can't tell if he's angry about that. Whatever, Hosei beat Meiji 3-1, which was good, and I think I got a lot of good photos, which is also good.
Also can't tell if the Hosei boys noticed I was there or not? I certainly feel like a few of them looked up at me but they might have just been scanning the crowd for their girlfriends :)
Between games I briefly went outside just to say hi and apologize to Mizushima, and say hi to Hanako, and a few other people. I was introduced to a few of the Hosei boys but have already forgotten who. No, really. WTF.
Second game was Todai-Rikkio again, and I got to see this Naoto Hatsuma freshman kid start for Todai. I'd heard that he's pretty good -- he went to Toho HS here in west Tokyo, and they got to Best 16 with him pitching last year. Anyway, he's certainly NOT BAD. Rikkio won the game 2-0, or so I hear -- I was only there the first 3 innings, taking photos of Hatsuma mostly, and some of the other Todai boys. But I mean, seriously, I really want to see them win a damn game this semester!! They've really changed a lot from last year and the main thing holding them back, IMO, is that their star players are just not quite as good as the other teams' -- that is, there's no really big threats in their lineup or their pitching. BUT I seriously don't think they suck like they used to.
I left at 2pm and came home, getting some sushi on the way from a stand on Ome-kaido, and showered and changed and hung out in my airconditioned room, which was a thoroughly brilliant idea on my part, and I was feeling much more human by the time I left to head back to Jingu for the evening game.
Oh, so that morning, Ben W arrived in town -- he was going to the Tokyo Game Show during the day and was then going to meet up with us in the evening. So I let him into the house in the morning to put his stuff down, on my way out, and so basically, I bought 2 tickets to the Swallows game on my way out of Jingu that afternoon, and Kozo bought a 3rd, and so I got back there to meet up with Ben and give him a ticket, and go to the game. We managed to get photos with Entaro, one of the Swallows mascots, so that was kinda cool.
Unfortunately the game was REALLY PACKED, at least in the outfield, because it was Yakult family day and they were giving discounts to Yakult employees, something like that. Even our section was crowded. So Ben and Kozo and Dave and I were in the seats, and the rest of our gang was up on the tarps on the walkway. I went and got butadon for dinner, which was really good.
As for the game, Kentaro Takasaki started for the Baystars, and Tatsuyoshi Masubuchi (he's only gonna break break break, break break our heart) for the Swallows. I was joking how Takasaki is the Baystars ace all along, but then he went ahead and pitched 4.1 perfect innings of baseball and pretty much two-hit the Swallows going into the 9th inning. It looked like it would just be a 4-0 Baystars win, and then the 9th inning got super-rocky and he gave up a run and the Stars switched pitchers a bunch of times and well, the final score was still 4-2. Whatever.
Everyone else went off to some party after the game and I came home because I was waking up early on Monday to go to Seibu.
