week of being sick and stuff like that

It's funny how I used to update LJ every day, now I do like once a week and have to remember what the hell is going on. It's weird but my current lifestyle doesn't lend itself well to the entire "20 mins at the end of the day to recap the day" sort of thing I used to do.

Um, so Monday was Harry Potter. Unfortunately, I came down with a cold sometime around then, or maybe it's just one of these sore throats I get from time to time, really. Thing is that meant I really wasn't able to do much at all for the rest of the week, so I didn't try out that Tuesday night volleyball thing after all, nor go to juggling club on Wednesday, etc. Instead I mostly stayed at work and either got work done or watched Koshien prelims or worked on some baseball post stuff for a change.

(The downside is that I've gained a lot of weight the last week or two from inactivity.)

Though despite all that, I did walk to the BART station every morning pretty much. Jason and I watched some Animaniacs on Tuesday, too.

Thursday I came back to Seattle... bizarrely, my flight wasn't delayed at all. Not sure what was up with that, but I'll take it.

Friday, during the day I worked on baseball stuff (but did not get everything done that I wanted to -- namely, I wanted to make a Marinerds post about the last time I saw Hideki Irabu play, which was in August 2009. I have an LJ post but that's not the same), and some kinda work stuff, and some puzzle hunt stuff, and did my usual house chores and laundry and such. Then in the evening we had a looooong puzzle hunt meeting. Our second beta is next weekend. The hunt is in 5 weeks. SCARY. We ordered pizza and worked on puzzle stuff, and I can't really say much more about it. I also watched the Sanko vs. Sojitsu finals, with no sound, while helping to work on stuff. Sanko won and I'm overjoyed -- I spent way too long being anti-Waseda I guess. Plus this is the team I like.

Saturday during the day we did Puzzle Safari -- this year the Liboncatipu team was me, Mike, Ryan, and Rehana. I feel like I should do a separate post about it. It also felt like way too short an event! We placed 6th. Jeff and Jonobie and Chris and Jen placed 4th. It was fun though. I solved a shitload of puzzles, which is always a good sign, and we got up to announce "OMG NO REALLY PUZZLE HUNT IN 5 WEEKS OMG GET YOUR TEAMS READY".

In the evening we came back home, ordered pizza, and I watched the Teikyo vs. Kanto Daiichi final, with sound on. The weirdest moment was when they were showing the family of the KD1 ace pitcher... his younger brother was one of my JHS students last year! So it was totally OMG THERE'S MINAKAWA! which was very surreal for me. But cool. It'd be even cooler if I could actually see one of my former students playing...

Afterwards we watched Glee, we downloaded a few episodes off the XBox movie netflixwhateverthingy. I think it's finally a TV show in English that I can actually care about, it's pretty damn funny. And music.

Sunday, we had RPG in the afternoon. Both groups finished out their plot... I guess we had about 4 sessions to play these? Ours ended well, fortunately, despite that it seemed like it wouldn't. My character didn't fight, really, she just dispelled people, which worked out fairly well, except for not being able to actually hit anyone. After RPG we went to Outback for dinner. It kinda sucked in the abstract sense because the service was slow and got half our orders wrong. But I guess for the purposes of hanging out with your friends it's not necessarily a bad thing. They gave us free desserts for screwing everything up.

I guess that's a whirlwind update.

My brain really has been in Japanese high school baseball the past week more than anything. I miss those guys a lot. And college ball. I can't wait to get back to Japan... I really ought to actually start planning that trip but I'm so preoccupied.

Speaking of Japanese high school ball, the school right next to my apartment is going to the summer Koushien this year. Shigakukan High School.

Yeah, their fence is literally right next to my building and I can hear them practicing on Saturdays and Sundays sometimes. You can see them from the balcony, too.

They have a banner up on the fence facing the road talking about their girls track team winning a 400m relay, so I guess their sports teams are doing pretty well this year.
