Sunday / Monday

Let's see.

So, Sunday was supposed to be a work day for Libon too, except I'd agreed to go to the Mariners-Yankees game with jweill, and almost everyone else had other stuff to do, so... yeah. The original plan was that Mike and I would go to MS, and I'd bus down and back for the game, but in practice, Mike gave me a ride to the game, and then he went for lunch and to get his comics in Ballard, and then to MS to work on stuff.

Jason and I met up at the glove around 12:30 and wandered in. He's a Yankees fan and has a jersey, but I wore a Niigata Albirex t-shirt where the logo is confusing enough that if you're not paying attention you'd certainly think it was a Yankees logo. (I really think it's funny how seriously nobody here notices. Um, if this FB link works you can look here to see the shirt.) So the usher is like "Well, guys, looks like it's gonna be a sweep!" and I'm like "I'm not a Yankees fan. He is."

We walked around the upper deck for a bit (Jason got super seats right behind home plate in row 5 of the upper deck) and I got Ivar's for lunch, and then there was a game. We were sitting between Mariners fan season ticket holders to the left, and Yankees fans (a father and two sons) to the right. Captain Cheeseburger Sabathia was starting for the Yankees, and Viva Las Vargas for the Mariners (no seriously, WTF). While I guess the Mariners were doing well all weekend up to this, I must have jinxed them, and they got their asses kicked by the Yankees. Nick Swisher hit a homer... I always did like him until he became a Yankee. And Justin Smoak hit one for the Mariners. And seriously, I have no desire to really recount this game, and my scorecard is in the other room anyway. The Yankees won 7-1. Jason and I spent the entire game talking, which is one of the great things about him, we never run out of stuff to talk about (even if finishing an entire thought I have takes like 2 hours because I have to keep backtracking). And we even mostly talked about baseball.

After the game we walked towards public transit, stopping in Uwajimaya so I could introduce him to the goodness that is たけのこの里 chocolate cookies. Mmmmmm. I also got some Kirin tea for nostalgia's sake, and then we went into the bus tunnel. I guess one neat side effect of the light rail is that the tunnel is now open on the weekends, eh.

Went uptown and Jason walked home, and I got the 545 bus out to Redmond, and Mike got me at the transit center. We played catch in a MS parking lot for a bit, and then went to work on a puzzle together, which we did for a few hours until it was like 8:30 and we were finished what we could do for the day and also a little hungry. But not starving. So... we went home and Mike made french toast and I played with my new computer and backed up my old computer and stuff like that.

Well, actually... "stuff like that" was watching Soukeisen Game 2 :) :) :)

It never gets old seeing Keio pound Waseda, even though I know that right now Waseda is pathetically bad. Daisuke Takeuchi was Keio's starter and I still adore him so very much! And of course, as I was watching in the 3rd, Keio got a few runners on, captain Hayata Itoh came up to bat, and I'm like "He's gonna knock one, just watch" and sure enough, BLAM, liner to right field, 2-RBI double. <3! Waseda did threaten to catch up a little, and made it all the way to 4-3, but Koji Fukutani came in and pitched the last half of the game and was AMAZING! He even hit 155 km/h on the Jingu guns a few times -- the only other recent Big 6 guy to do that was Ohishi and I keep saying Fukutani is BETTER, and god knows I used to talk about how awesome Ohishi was all the damn time.

So yeah, Keio won and also won the league championship. Daisuke was crying, Itoh was smiling up a storm, etc, they had a doage, and my three favorite boys were the game heroes as well. The interview was really funny about Itoh -- it turns out he was literally like ONE HIT SHORT of the LEAGUE TRIPLE CROWN. No shit. No shit at all. Rikkio's Yuji Naga, who also had a monster season, finished with a .418 batting average (23-for-55) and Itoh finished at .405 (17-for-42). Let's not mention that Itoh had 12 walks and Naga had 4 though. Itoh also had the most RBIs in the league with 17, and homers with 4. He's sooooo gooood. I'm such a fangirl. But anyway, so in the interview, they informed him of that and he's like "Oh man. Well, we won the league, that's what really counts, right?" But then he admitted something like "One more hit? Only one? Yeah... I guess I suck for being that close..."

And hey, Rikkio's Komuro made Best Nine as a pitcher as he totally deserved to. And Naoki Harada made it as catcher, and Ikuhiro Takeda as 1st base! How crazy :)

I guess I went to sleep shortly after that game ended, anyway.

Monday, let's see, Mike had to get up for racquetball. And then we went to lunch at Chipotle, and then went to Christine's place for games, where I forced her and Logan and Paul and Mike to play Seven Wonders, so that our set would continue to get mileage. I won the first game and Mike won the second. After that, though, I curled up to do some reading for work, and everyone else (including another guy, Kelly) played Robo Rally.

I'd wanted to go to Ballard and see people, so made plans with Oren and Carl to get dinner at Chinook's, which we did. They didn't have sole or flounder yet again, which made me sad, so I ordered the tombo tuna, which was said to be "medium-rare" in the menu, but mine was totally overcooked. I hate wasting food but it was really pretty terrible, so I complained and got a new serving, which was quite good. I dunno.

Mike and I came back to Sammamish after dinner and goofed off on computers. I tried to do a CI run on this new laptop and had a LOT of trouble with the carp puzzle -- for whatever reason, it kept not recognizing when I'd put down a piece and would continue to move it, and I would keep getting misplaced stuff, it was VERY frustrating. Sigh. So I'm a little annoyed at how this machine plays, though I heard it might be an actual bug in PP since I haven't played much recently. I went and got a Cursed Sloop after that, which is very cute!

Okay.

So I'm heading back to San Francisco in the morning, will be back in Seattle on Friday night.

Also, I realized something sucky -- I wanted to see the Phillies when they come to Seattle this year -- but I can't because I'm doing The Game that weekend. Which I planned for ages before I'd even seen the Mariners schedule. Sigh :(

Can't see the image, but isn't the Albirex logo a swan, and their colors orange and white? And why are you wearing soccer stuff to a baseball game? And since when have you been a soccer fan? Too many questions!;)

D'oh...silly me. I had to look that up...I've never even heard of the "Baseball Challenge League". Your baseball knowledge is limitless, Deanna! Did you ever get to a J-League soccer match while you were in Japan? Still looking to catch one the next time we go over (whenever that may be).
