graduation and stuff
I went to graduation today. I went to the main ceremony but it was cold and rainy so I left after like ten minutes and went over to the Carnegie Music Hall thingy. I got there at like noon and wasn't allowed to go in, so I sat in the lobby and read the graduation programs for a bit. Ajay showed up around 12:15 so I went in with him, and they opened the doors around 12:20. I saw Mav there too, that was weird. So Ajay also had a big camera, so we got really good seats - right at the right of the stage, in the very front row, with these other two women who were there to take pictures of all the SCS graduates.
Christina and dkitchin and Mike Peck and babailey and other people showed up a little after that, so I gave Christina the seat next to me because it was really good, but we didn't have enough space for everyone else, but Dave and Bryan sat two rows back, and Mike was there to see his cousin graduate so he went to sit with his family anyway. When all the graduates came in I got to say hi to lots of people and take pictures, and say more hi, and take more pictures, and I even got an SCS totebag despite that Catherine always tells me not to take them. Heh.
I got to watch and cheer on a ton of people graduating, which is always fun. We sort of had a lounge contingent to cheer for all of our friends, which was good. As Dave told us later, Brighten's name and honors took 11 seconds to read, but jcreed's only took 9. I think it's because two minors takes longer to read than one dual degree. Heh. Still, there were some people with tons of bells and whistles, which is always exciting to see. I tried to take pictures of a lot of people crossing the stage, but we'll see how well it actually comes out. A lot of my D&D group graduated from CS this semester, oddly... Drew, Matt Lahut, Ben Kane, James Wilson, Deryck Morales, Chris Labrunda... and all of whizbang's interns from last summer (Drew, Jason, Jacob, and Kevin). I dunno. I got to meet bunches of family people. jcreed's mother was like "oh, you're Deanna! I have heard so many nice things about you," which was as always scary but good to hear, and Nick's parents were also like "oh, you went to Ohio! We saw pictures of you," and such. In general, people's families were cool, and seeing people was cool, and saying goodbye to people was cool, and I didn't cry at all! whee.
I hung out at the CS reception until it cleared out, then walked to campus with Carl and Martin and Drew, and then I came home, and I guess now I'm going to go to Sunday dinner, as soon as I change out of this "nice" shirt. I guess technically I could leave it on, actually. Hmm.
