More serendipity

Today I went downtown to have lunch with Carl by an actual plan rather than random chance. We went to a place called Feierabend near he works. It's easy for me to remember thanks to a certain former Mariners pitcher.

I went to the Seattle library after that to spend an hour or two before heading back east for PH meeting. I got pretty sidetracked in the baseball books; spent a bit too long going through Alyssa Milano's book (seriously, it's like a train wreck, and I didn't really read most of it so much as skim for where she starts talking about dating Barry Zito, which she didn't really) and then speed-read through as much of Sadaharu Oh's English autobiography as possible. I originally read it like 6-7 years ago and loved it then but had none of the context I do now, so when he talks about pitching for Sojitsu at Koshien it's just insane -- and telling stories of growing up in Sumida-ku and so on. I really want to reread it for real; wish it wasn't 25 years out of print.

Went to PH meeting, not a lot I can say there.

After the meeting I went to get dinner with Mike and Andy and Adam and Rehana. We went to Rock Bottom out in Bellevue and had a pretty nice all-american dinner, though my mashed potatoes were WAY too cheesy, the chicken fried chicken was good, and we had appetizers like pickled peppers and ballpark pretzels. We told stories about CMU and whatnot. It was fun.

On the way out of the place I hear a "deanna?" and it was Josh and Justin from the House of Slack! I was really surprised, I haven't seen them in forever, not since last winter I don't think at the least. I actually really want to introduce Mike to that crowd, but I just don't know what people's schedules are like now so I was a slacker and put off actually arranging anything this trip (well, and Mike having to go away had a little to do with it too). So it was cool to be able to say "remember how I talked about softball and about D&D and about a guy who had 3000 board games in his basement and so on? well, this is Josh". They were apparently out there for Dragonflight.

Whee.

Also, it is now Mike's birthday. In the morning we will drive to Portland for the weekend, hooray!
