yay saturdays and parties and stuff
Today I did a LOT of driving. I put 50 miles on the car, says Eli. Whee.
We decided to work on highways instead of parallel parking... so, we drove to Squirrel Hill and I got on 376 going west, sped up to 55 mph, and then slowed down and exited at Oakland. Turned right on Blvd of the Allies, went into the park, got back to Pocusset, turned right and went back onto 376 going west, sped up to 60 mph this time, exited in Oakland... (this was the idea that Dani and
cellio had suggested to us). After doing this like four times, I turned left onto Allies and went downtown and drove all the way to Half Price Books on McKnight road (the Pittsburghers will know that this means going between like three major highways), where we shopped for two hours and where I ran into
kaote who now works there. I picked up several movies and another book on learning Korean, and some Austin Lounge Lizards CDs (yay!)
After that we went to Michael's crafts except they didn't have orange t-shirts and I forgot what else I was going there for (I'm working on an Alice 5th Mix costume for the Michigan DDR tournament Rebecca and I are entering in... I could just be Emi 3rd again but since they've got 4th and 5th machines at the place, I want to be a 4th or 5th character, and my Emi 4th mix costume is laaaaaaame and I'm not sure I could get away with dressing as Nina. So I have a green and orange t-shirt but they're both bad shades of the colors and they sort of clash. If I can't find anything else I'll wear em, but, ugh). Bleh. After that we decided to get dinner, at Sushi Too down on Carson street, but there was a major can't-get-there-from-here problem. So I pretty much practically went back to Oakland, turned around, got on Fifth, and took the Birmingham Bridge down to Carson. Found a parking space on the side of the road, and we went and ate sushi. It was pretty good.
Stopped back at home to get changed for parties. (I was wearing a crappy t-shirt and jeans and had my hair looking like crap, so I put on khakis and my Brilliant Green t-shirt and put my hair up.) I guess I should mention that
lqiu and
rmitz had both called me during the day to ask where the heck
dvarin was. So I found him on AIM and picked him up and then I drove to
blk's house, where there was a party. Li and Carl and I played some Settlers, and then I played cards off and on with people. Justin,
blk's almost-4-year-old son, sat on my lap for a while in the card games and I "helped" him play card games. He had this aversion to the joker card though, which was funny because we played Rook for a while, and he would look at the cards like "I don't see any jokers, the jokers are bad" and stuff, which gave away stuff about my hands, but it was cute. Around 11 I left with Eli. I drove back to the CMU area, which was a pain in the ass because of the 376 detours, so we ended up taking Penn and Liberty up to Oakland, and then I drove to Squill.
There was a party at Chris, Edwin, and Will's apartment. It was a weird mix of Scotch'n'Soda people and CS grad students. I talked to Robin about Cedar Point, so maybe we can go with their group this week sometime. And I got to dance salsa with Pat, and swing with Benoit, and I got to talk to a lot of people. It's funny because a lot of them are people who "know" me and who I "know" but I think they only "know" me at these parties. But I have fun talking to them anyway. And I got to argue Sondheim and Gilbert&Sullivan with Larry and Robin, which was also amusing. I also avoided playing Twister. Hmm. I really did have a whole lot of fun, a lot more than I'd had at the Jensen party (which isn't Barbara's fault or anything, her party was a lot more low-key than the other one, and I think I kind of wanted to go to one of these tons-of-grad-students-getting-drunk parties since I hadn't been to one in a while). I got to be the designated driver because, well, I wanted to drive. Oh, I managed to park on Darlington, too. That was cool.
Ok, so like, I'm going to have some ice cream and go to sleep. Also, if Ryan Ingram is reading this, THANKS FOR THE CD! I'M LISTENING TO IT NOW! if not I guess I should email him sometime. heh. :) i love it! especially the Shire theme. it just sends chills down my spine. sooooooo cool.
