Holy shit

GEOS filed for bankruptcy

Guess it's a good thing I got out when I did. On the other hand I am a little sad because I honestly did believe that of all the eikaiwa, we were one of the less skeezy...

They had their problems too. And I don't think they shrunk the number of their schools to reflect the shrinking market.

They were pursuing an expansionist business strategy in a shrinking market, and the strategy backfired. Nothing to do with skeeziness. ^_^

It did get quite a few students coming in worriedly and asking if my company was doing okay. XD

Yeah, I think you really lucked out. Daniel my Nikon friend who worked at Geos in Tochigi is out two months pay and his separation bonus. (He was supposed to quit in May to go back home.) He's still going back home in May, but in addition to not getting all that money, he will be evicted from his GEOS apartment next week. Fortunately, he has some kind of plan and will get by, but I bet there are some other teachers who are freaking out.
