Thursday, Friday -- books and stuff

Thursday was beautiful outside, so I went to Greenlake.

However, I took a detour first to Northgate, where I had Chipotle for lunch and then went to the Barnes&Noble to look through their kids' books. It's a bit odd -- I wanted to get some stuff aimed at kindergarten-level readers, because that is about where our 7th- and 8th- graders are in Japan (after all, we start the 7th-graders off with learning the ABC's). So I picked out 7 random short books, mostly levels 1-3, with things like The Little Mermaid, or Spider-Man, or Bolt, or Star Wars, or Snow White, and a few baseball-related ones. I'm not even sure I'll use them because I still don't know exactly what job I'll have -- but I know that last year I sure wished I had a few things like this for English club or to teach extra classes with or whatever (a few grammar points could totally be done with some of these, like "Dopey doesn't have a beard" or "This beard is bigger than that beard"). I figure if worse comes to worst I can either give them to Fukuda-sensei, or to [profile] teravell or someone else who may have a reason to be reading English books to kids. Heck, the baseball ones could go to some of my Fighters friends who keep saying they really need to work harder on English.

Also got the School House Rock grammar DVD. Only thing is -- is there a way to copy a DVD such that it is regionless? I would have loved to have this last year too, especially the Pronouns song... but the DVD players at our school are all Region 2, obviously...

Anyway, had a nice walk around Greenlake, then came back home. I worked on packing some stuff in the rest of the afternoon. Mike came over in the evening, and we went to Chinook's for dinner with Carl (I drove, heh), and then hung out for a few hours.

Oh, one side stupid thing: QFC was selling Cadbury Creme Eggs (that what it says on them, not Kraft) for 59 cents each, or you could buy 4 of them in a box for $2.99. How stupid is THAT? I may have to find a box and fill it with individual eggs...

Anyway, today is Friday and I went to Taste of India for lunch because I was worried I might not get back there otherwise. So I spent way too much on lunch (chicken tikka masala and naan and chai), but it made me happy. They gave me mango ice cream as a free dessert.

Not much else though -- did laundry and packed more. I think I'll be okay for space. I tried to go to the bank and get traveler's checks, too, but it turns out they can only give them on day where a specific staff member is there who is in charge of traveler's checks, and she wasn't around today, so they couldn't. Weird, huh? I figure it's not the end of the world and I'll just go to a different bank on Monday -- maybe better that way anyway so I can't accidentally lose them over the weekend.

One really annoying thing: Suddenly, out of nowhere, I have a toothache. Like in the "I wonder if I have a cavity? This huuuurts" kind of feeling. If it was a cavity I think it'd have to be BETWEEN two of my teeth though (it's a front lower place). Sigh. Well, we'll see if maybe it goes away. Otherwise, I may have to also try to call for an emergency dentist visit on Monday or worse, go find a dentist in Japan. That would suck suck suck suck suck suck suck, I think. Ugh.
